1. Purpose:
When combat is imminent, the game's soundtrack immediately switches to "battle music", which warns the player of the impending danger. For those of us, who've disabled the music to gain a performance boost, or have turned it off because we've grown tired of it, there is typically no warning of impending calamity. This mod provides an alternative warning, both visual and audible that is meant to replace the axe-blow to the back of the head as the first indicator of your impending doom.

The audible portion is started as soon as the original "battle music" would start. It's a sound effects file, with a brief phrase of "dramatic music" to highlight the danger. The visible portion, is a temporary message at the top of the screen and a persistent "spell icon" (Detect Life) in the top right corner, which lasts for the duration of the battle. Once the player is no longer "in combat", then a message is flashed indicating that the danger has passed and then the icon is removed.

If for some reason, the brief phrase of "dramatic music" becomes annoying, then it may be turned off using the console command:

set CombatAlarm.CS to 0

To return to the default sound:

set CombatAlarm.CS to 1

To change the default sound to a brief drumroll ( the game's skill-up sound ) and an occasional race and gender-specific exclamation, use the following console command:

set CombatAlarm.CS to 2

To add the Detect Life Shader to the attacking enemies, use the console command:

set CombatAlarm.DL to 1

This is a Detect Life ( 100 ft ) spell, that disappears when the danger ends. To reset to the default use:

set CombatAlarm.DL to 0

2. Installation:
Install the CombatAlarm.esp file into the "Oblivion\Data" folder.

3. Possible Conflicts:
No Oblivion Scripts were altered, and this mod works without conflict with new games and save games with a variety of installed mods.
