The real reason why people visit a Weihnachtsmarkt is of course this magical potion called something like "glowing wine" in German, probably because it makes your head glow like a light bulb.

I always thought Gluekswein means something like "fortify luck potion"...
However, until now I wasn't aware of there being a dictionary translation "Mulled Wine" though.
But you're right. They're usually not taking it too seriously with alcohol control in these. Your brain's tricked by them tasting like fruit juice, and before you know it you already have too much.
If I get to go there, I will be careful. ;-D
