About this image

Ranged combat in RoA is more exciting, more tactical and more dangerous than ever before. Hunters will be one of the character classes in the world of Asuron. Classes in RoA are different than classes in Oblivion -- They refer to different tactical trees of gear rather than static and permanent pre-set builds.

In Realms of Asuron, your class is ever-changing, solely dependent upon your choices in the game world (not upon your choices in the game menu). More specifically, your choice of equipment influences the way you play. In the example of the Hunter, picking up a bow and equipping Broadhead Arrows automatically grants you a specialised role which comes with its own pros and cons. If you decide those cons are too much for you, then you may acquire other pieces of gear which will add different tactical advantages and disadvantages to your character.

This intricate system of high risks with high rewards adds greater tactical depth to the existing combat system and allows players to "change classes" mid-game depending on the current or anticipated combat situation.

Two types of arrows will appear in the game world: Broadhead Arrows and Bodkin Arrows.

Broadhead Arrows are designed to cause massive bleeding in the victim. Their primary function is to eliminate the lighter and more troublesome targets in an encounter as quickly as possible. When used against other Hunters, Broadhead Arrows inflict +200% damage. Since it is such a threat to Hunters as much as it is a boon, this arrow is commonly known as the "Hunter's Bane".

Bodkin Arrows inflict slightly less damage than Broadhead Arrows. They do not incur a bleeding effect, but they do carry a special (and very deadly) armour penetration bonus. The Bodkin Arrow's ability to rapidly disintegrate armour makes it particularly useful against Guardian and Warrior classes.

Really interesting concept. I like the idea to switch between different types of arrows to gain different advantages in the fight. This way one is also encouraged to collect those arrows (if they should be rare to find items) and to use them sparingly. I also think it adds more variety to combat because it affects on a wider range of enemies. It's not the usual/simple way of thinking: "Oh, there is a "ghost" - where is my silver sword/where are my silver arrows.
