I dunno if this will help you, but it helped me. Thanks to Sesst down in the comments for the idea.

I've tested some versions and 1.1 seems stable enough to use as a workaround the "bazillion items" glitch. You'll want to do the following:
    - Download the 1.1 version and install normally (as always, MO2 is your best bet so you can easily remove it later without breaking anything)
    - Before activating it, make a quicksave or normal save for control (so you can easily revert back if something goes wrong) while inside a cell. I suggest going to REPCONN first floor or basement as there's tons of clutter misc items you can test the mod on.
    - Activate the mod
    - Go to MCM options, and set "Enable/Disable autolooting" as OFF
    - Set the hotkeys for "Manual Loot", "Open main loot container", and "Add/Remove cell from autolooting" as desired. I personally left the Manual Loot as is.
    - As you load your control save, you'll loot everything in the cell from every non-locked container, npc, or simply on the ground. If you didn't loot the place, you'll receive TONS of messages. This is expected.
    - Check your inventory and see if you don't have literal MILLIONS of certain items (like "Atomic Cocktail" for example). If you don't, then congrats! The mod is working as intended.

    Things to consider:
    - You'll have to press the Manual Loot key every time you wish to completely loot an interior. Do not use in the exterior as you'll probably crash.
    - To deactivate the annoying messages from popping up for an hour, make a quick save, then immediately quickload. The messages will be gone, and you'll have all the items you looted.
    - Use it smartly. I suggest going through the cell as intended, doing the quests and looting corpses and containers as you'd normally do (especially if you didn't play the game thousands of times before) if you care about immersion. Then, if you want to make sure you'll loot EVERYTHING (for crafting, for example) press the manual loot hotkey, quicksave, quickload, and bam. You'll have everything that's not bolted down in that cell.
    - It won't work on owned items (with some exceptions), so you'll not lose reputation or karma. These you'll have to steal manually.
    - Use the general loot container hotkey so you can store things you don't need right away. It's a bit OP, of course, but it's a Godsend quality of life addition for those people who just can't be bothered to travel back and forth to containers so they can drop those pesky cans a dozen at a time.
    - Activate "Loot player dropped items" to loot raiders automatically (if they are inside a cell, remember! Don't risk doing it while on the wasteland. It's not worth it).
    - Remove your chosen player home from the loot list by pressing the "Add/Remove cell from autolooting" so you can place your items there with no fear of bumping into the manual loot hotkey by accident (after a while, your brain will make you press the button automatically. Believe me. So do this just to be safe)

I hope I helped you in some way. This mod is awesome and it helped me a lot when replaying the game for the thousandth time. Until the author works on fixes and changes, this will serve you greatly.
    Cheers m8s

      Or:
      1) Download and install "Geck"
      2) Open this mod in "Geck" (do not forget to mark the mod as "Set as Active File")
      3) Press menu Edit -> Find Text
      4) Go to the "Scripts" tab, in the "Search Text" field enter "qrtContainerLootCoreHelper" and click "Find Text"
      5) Double-click the found script, find the line "refItem.RemoveMeIR storeRef" near the end of the script and change it to "refItem.RemoveMeIRAlt 1 0 storeRef"
      6) Save the script and save the mod.

And all the error with a million or a billion or a bazillion items is fixed!

(This fix only works on picking up new items, if your save already has a huge amount of items, they will remain in a huge amount, so load an earlier save or get rid of these items)

      Can't save the scrip.
Any way you can upload it as a "FIX" for the mod?

After trying to get this to work I've given up. At one point I was able to get the script to save but in the game there were errors in the console. I was unable to save the script after further attempts. The function RemoveMeIRAlt requires that geck is loaded via nvse otherwise it won't save because the function is part of nvse. There are instructions on how to do that on the internet but they don't appear to work consistently. I downloaded geck extender and the included geck.exe replacement and I ran nvse_loader.exe through a shortcut and added " -editor" to the end to get it to load geck via nvse. But even when doing that I still seem to get the same error which prevents me from saving. You can open the log window in geck under Extensions->Show Log. I've tried opening the mod file in various ways including and excluding the base game and DLC esp files but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
Perhaps someone who can successfully use geck with nvse could make this edit for us and upload the modified mod file somewhere.

I found this bug with millions of items in "qrtContainerLootCoreHelper" script,
instead of "refItem.RemoveMeIR storeRef" you need to write

    "refItem.RemoveMeIRAlt 0 0 storeRef"
    or
    "refItem.RemoveMeIRAlt 1 0 storeRef"

(I forgot that the first number). So far so good, I've been running for a long time. You yourself will figure out how to fix it, or someone will publish a fix.

Yep, this mod is not compatible with xNVSE 6.0.0 and later.

      Use:
      - xNVSE 5.1.6 https://github.com/xNVSE/NVSE/releases/tag/5.1.6
      -"JIP LN NVSE Plugin-58277-55-84-1611439816.7z" https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/58277?tab=files&file_id=1000070045

Ah damn I used this mod just now. It appeared to be working perfectly so I continued from room to room thinking I don't have to loot every metal box and wait for that brief lag each time. Then I notice I have like a bagillion of this and that. Apparently every stackable item it picks up, including caps, messes up the quantity, so you have a ridiculous amount of everything it picked up.  It would've been so useful but it's messed up my game and has taken the fun out of collecting stuff to sell so I think I'm going to have to turn this mod off and then go through my inventory and dump all the stuff with ridiculous quantities in some random container and leave myself with about the same caps and stimpacks as I remembered having. I get that it's not supposed to do that, but you don't want trillions of every item.
I don't suppose somebody has a solution to fix this problem?
Don't use this mod. At the very least make a backup save before you enable it. Sigh...

A true shame this is broken now.
This is easily the single best auto looter I've ever used. Instant and intuitive. You could pick an area clean after clearing it with the press of a button with no prolonged waiting until it decides to acknowledge an item, and it happily picks up non-vanilla items without patches rather than checking a strict list.

I really hope this gets updated.

Can you explain what did you do? I am having trouble with this mod, since it steals everything and makes me shunned in Goodsprings for some unknown reason.

Actually, for me it won't loot anything that is considered owned and would be considered stealing to take, yet within minutes of exiting Doc's house i have NPC's firing on me despite I also have a mod that removes the karma hit you take for stealing. I have no idea what the problem is.

Man I HATE when people come back and post "NVM I Figured it out" and then don't tell everybody what they did to fix it.

If you spent the time coming back to the thread/mod page just to type "NVM, I figured it out" without posting HOW you fixed it, that doesn't help ANYBODY!!!

      Hoooo boy

      Better late than never!

I've figured out that the issue is with the script - picking plants has its own 'Helper' script, and it doesn't do the same 'legality' check.
Go into GECK, filter to *All, search for qrt and you'll find all the scripts associated with this mod.
Open the qrtPlantLootHelper script and under the line "ref rActor" add a new line with the text "int isLegal" so the start of the script looks like this:

      scn qrtPlantLootHelper

      ref tempBaseId
      ref rActor
      int isLegal
      int isInDistance

No more picking fruit that ain't yours!

Still haven't figured out how to fix the millions of extra items yet...

If there comes an update again... I would like to see that it is possible to steal owned items...

    Cheers!

I gotta say, even though this mod isn't more popular, I love it.
But it has one major game breaking flaw that deters me from using it.
    It calculates item amounts wrong.
Evidently, looting just 1, say .357 Magnum Round, might result in a huge amount like 171,192,342.
I don't know what governs it, because some items don't have this issue.
If you pick up certain ammo type once, you won't have to worry about running out ever; and that ruins the game, because part of the fun is to try different weapons and scavenge ammo.
As of now, only version 1.1 is free of this problem, so I'm using it; I just like the convenience it brings so damn much.

If you, the mod creator, see this, please, I really love this mod, since I want to be able to pick up all junks like those tin cans without having to do it manually.
I hope you could fix it.
    Thank you.
