    Whirly: Version 1.8

    • This is the original "RobCo Whirligig" (aka Whirly) release which uses a Vertibird model and has Ballistic weaponry.
    • v1.8 reworked scripting that could hinder or break other game scripts or mod scripts

NOTE: If upgrading Whirly v1.4 or earlier: a Texture Pack must now be installed to change Whirly's appearance if desired; do not use the older textures if you downloaded any of those before since they are not compatible with the latest version and will cause problems.
Note: a Texture Pack is several .dds files, whereas an older texture download is a single .bsa file.

Whirly Mk II Prototype: Version 1.1

    • A "companion style" version of Whirly, with independent movement and combat while un-Latched.
    • Model courtesy of MindBoggles who was kind enough to also rework the model and animations to tailor it for this mod.
    • With special thanks to Hopper31 for suggesting use of the model via his own mod (Vertibird Player Home), as well as for facilitating the re-use approval process.
    • v1.1 is a fix for an auto-deployment bug that occurred when transitioning inside/outside while in inventory.

    Rocket Whirly: Version 1.8

    • This is a rocket'ized "energy weapon" RobCo Whirligig - model courtesy of Weijiesen (Grand Master of special effects and modeling)
    • v1.8 reworked scripting that could hinder or break other game scripts or mod scripts

    RobCo BottleCap UFO: Version 1.8

    • Sunset Sarsaparilla "Star" Bottle Cap with an Alien Crew. Uses energy weapons similar to Rocket Whirly
Note: If the UFO vanishes and does not return, toggle the "Crew" setting a couple of times via the Controller to see if that resolves the issue. Please report any prolonged disappearances not resolved by crew toggling with as much detail as possible.
    • v1.8 reworked scripting that could hinder or break other game scripts or mod scripts

    PlayGround UFO: Version 2.0

    • Alien Crew onboard! (so there is potential for a future Away Team enhancement)
    • "It's from RobCo - It's Fun!!!" An alternate Whirly model by Jokerine from a delightful collection of thingamajigs, thingamabobs, and thingummies that are provided as a modder's resource: Jokerine's Misc Resources Tutorials and Novac Bungalow
    • v2.0 has a fix for game engine bugs & quirkiness that could cause prolonged or permanent invisibility

    RobCo "MotherShip UFO": Version 1.0

    • The very latest in Tactical Heavy-Weapons platforms: "When a HandLaser just isn't enough"
    • The MotherShip Zeta model, as happily suggested by tog999, with contributions by Shardoom in resolving usability issues.

    Whirly TTW Patchapalooza

WARNING: May not be up-to-date with current releases.
    • Automated compatibility patch installer for use with TTW; patches provided by Jokerine.
    • Whirly, or Rocket Whirly, or PlayGround UFO should already be installed when installing this patch.

    Notes:

    • Install only one of the above "Whirly" mods for a play-through in order to avoid conflicts.
    • I am willing to upload alternate textures for Whirly if other folks would like to make them.
    • Team Whirly Outfit is Male only - I will be delighted if someone is willing to contribute a Female version [I don't have the skills].

Suggestions, Discussion, Constructive Criticism, and Problem Reports, are all welcomed ...

Are you gonna release a model of Whirly as the big vertibirds from the Frontier?

I have not looked into what Frontier has to offer, in terms of gameplay or modding potential.  I am currently "away" from New Vegas working on a Cyberpunk 2077 mod, with no notion as to what will next attract my interest.  But I will make note of your suggestion.  Thank you for posting.

I love my little companion but he suddenly started to shoot non-hostile NPCs :(
The quest associated to Barton Thorn didn't trigger but Whirly started shooting the guy on first contact. Is this a bug or will Whirly shoot on sight future NPCSs that may potentially become hostile during quest progress ?

      This might be it ...

The scripting allows Whirly to fire at "neutral" NPCs and Creatures (not just enemies) whenever the game indicates that your character is currently "in combat" and the aiming cursor for your character is directed at one of those -- even if no weapon is actually readied or aimed. Perhaps that is what you experienced. Note that the game can sometimes believe that the player character is still in combat for a while after the fighting seems to be done.

I suspect there was a reason for why I allowed neutrals to be fired upon like that, although I no longer remember why.  Maybe it was to allow Whirly to perform surprise attacks on other nearby targets that have not yet become aware of your presence during a fight, but which would attack you once they became alerted.

Alternatively, perhaps you encountered Barton after you cleared away the Geckos near the loot that he wanted to acquire ... in which case the game had already set him to be an enemy even though you had not yet spoken to him.

Regardless, I'll give it some thought. Maybe it is time to consider changing that scripting. Thank you for posting.

Thank you for taking the time to look into this, I will let you know if this happens with other NPCs as I progress through the game.

I'm still curious about the raven in the image section. Is there a hidden/unreleased version of Whirly with a Raven skin?

My brain is starting to come up with a new character playthrough with a raven familiar that shoots lasers from it's eyes :D

Presented with humor and the thought that I might do something with it eventually in a mod.

Did not come to be, for reasons I no longer remember.  Perhaps it wasn't technically feasible or perhaps I became distracted with other projects.

On the other hand, I recently examined the crows/ravens in Fallout 4 and concluded that something might be done with them.  But such a project would have difficulties because Bethesda did not provide them as fully developed creatures. <shrug>  Perhaps I will give it a try anyway.

      Thank you for posting.

And it took me 4 years to ask about it. Funny it came back to me as soon as I went in this mod page. lol

Thanks to The Frontier, I might go back playing this game and of course Whirly will be in the load order!

When I was a kid, we had one of those non-RC gas powered fly and fall Airwolf models. This mod, with the midnight texture, is how I always wished that model would be. Whirly is a greatly valued asset to my game.

Still one of my favorite mods. It's hard not to put the Airwolf theme on repeat when Whirly's in the team.

Sorry, no there is not. Probably best to simply uninstall this mod, then load your saved game and create a new saved game while this mod is absent. Exit and resume play using that new saved game.

Hey, I found a workaround. I've done 2 things. First is using the GECK with multi-master support enabled and selecting all the dlcs as masters for the whirly file, then saving that. The second is using the Roxie Forever mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/43138). It's AEF controller allows you to select an option to enable companions in dlcs. This combination has allowed me to bring whirly mark II in follower mode into dead money with no crashing. I do sometimes have to use whirly's controller while in there to reset its follower mode after going through an area transition, but otherwise it works normally. It was a little glitchy at first, but choosing "add to backpack" from the controller menu after starting dead money fixed the issue and it reattached to my shoulder.

Pretty much a permenant member of my merry little band of cutthroats; Whirly MkII is a slayer of the first order.

I have run into one small issue; if you've got him stowed, and are forcably de-inventoried (yes, I'm looking at YOU, Dead Money), he compleatly breaks. The only way to get him back is to do a clean reinstall, losing his upgrades in the process.

According to another poster on this thread, attempting Dead Money with Whirly out crashes the works. Which, in my opinion, is yet another reason to never again run through that aggravating PoS.

it's perhaps one of the best utility/companion mods I've downloaded and hopefully, if you ever come back to this mod it would be nice if you added that item highlight perk from Rex, also I'm having some problems being stealthy with Whirly latched on me, idk if the level of sound for it's engine is purely convenience but as for stealth it doesn't change anything, maybe an addon for it like Lily's "Stealth Girl" too? anyway, i'm quite pleased with it, good along ED-E and very reliable since no mission can take away either Whirly or it's controller

Which of the Whirly downloads are you referring to with regard to Stealth issues?

Should be as easy as this: install one of the texture packs (e.g. NCR Texture Pack or Midnight and Blood Texture Pack) from the Optional Files section, then enable it.

Is it not working for you? Or do you need a little help on how to use Vortex?

[ I just now used Vortex and it worked fine for various texture packs ]

If you are using Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) to install mods and patches, be sure to use the newest update found Here.

The older versions are very buggy and cause the problem you described.
