Ah, ok. The merchant is a random spawn. Oddly enough, I've never encountered him in all my playthroughs. Regardless, he is fixed in this mod by Yukichigai:
I believe that kpoeticg is referring to the guy right across from the Novac gates. He does exhibit this bug and is the most notable for me and my friends because we base ourselves in Novac. So far, he's died three times via AMR because he was dressed as a Legion goon from armor we've sold him. Thanks for working on this, it's amusing but only until you reduce someone to a fine mist because you thought they were an enemy.
I've seen the Merc outside Novac wearing Raider/Fiend armor I've sold him from time to time
Which Novac mercenary are you referring to? I've not met any Novac mercenaries in the vanilla game that players can trade with, only the doctor and a couple of town residents.
I second, to confirm vernvern's observation. The doctor went all tribal between visits, after trading fiend wares for radaway. Thank you for working on these bugs.
from what ive seen all of the traveling merchants have this issue as well not sure about other named NPCs i usually only sell my armor to the traveling merchants XD
