Requirements

Magicka Mastery requires MWSE 0.9.5-alpha.20151016. It may work on versions as early as 0.9.5-alpha.20150707.

Description

Magicka Mastery is a combination spell cost-reduction and magicka-based skill progression mod that I wrote because none of the existing ones I could find worked the way I wanted to. The script is roughly based on that of Spell Cast Reduction by Aragon. The skill progression part I wrote from scratch.

Magicka reduction starts at a skill level of 50. At 100, you get 50% of your Magicka back. At 200, you get 75% back (spell effectively costs 25%). At 300 or more, you get 87.5% back (spell effectively costs 12.5%). The cost will not be reduced below 1.

Skill progression is the spell's Magicka cost (unadjusted by reduction) divided by 5, so a 5-Magicka spell (e.g. Fireball) will give the same amount of experience as successfully casting any spell in vanilla Morrowind (1.00). If the spell fails, the cost is divided by 5 again, so you still get some experience for a failed spell (unless no Magicka was lost, in which case the script assumes you failed due to insufficient Magicka and gives you nothing).

All magical skills are modified to provide 0 experience for a successful cast, so spell experience is completely handled by the script.

Version History

v2.0
- Spells now don't give experience until done casting (failure sound doesn't play right away if insufficient magicka wasn't the reason for failure)
- Spells that fit in more than one school now give experience to the lowest skill (this is my understanding of how vanilla handles it)
- If the skill levels are tied, priority is given to the one with the lower skill ID as before.
- (The skill ID order for magical skills goes Destruction, Alteration, Conjuration, Illusion, Mysticism, and Restoration.)
- Rewrote a lot of the script logic to accommodate those changes

v1.0.1
- Fixed formulae for skill levels >= 100.

v1.0
- Initial release.
