What a waste of my time this would have been had I not learned something in the process. So, I unzipped this to my Morrowind directory then "merged" it, but to no avail. Besides not working in the first place, this registry changer doesn't have any way to select different resolutions even if it did. It did change the registry values in a WOW6432Node in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to 1920x1080 but that didn't quite cut it because it had absolutely no effect on the game resolution whatsoever.
Since I've done several re-installs from my original GOTY DVD something else might be going on here that's hard to sort out, so this still might work for you providing you're looking for a 1920x1080 solution. I have tried 2 or 3 "resolution changers" for Morrowind and could not get any of them to work correctly.
As it turns out, the proper solution for me was to just go into the registry and do it myself. Although I'm 99% positive that this would be different for the Steam and/or G.O.G versions and without a doubt OpenMW too; the appropriate keys for my vanilla DVD version are located in: HKEY_USERS/S-15-212451767571-30632-38203-609717474-1000/Software/Classes/VirtualStore/SOFTWARE/WOW6432Node/BethesdaSoftworks/Morrowind - Screen Height REG_DwORD & Screen Width REG_DWORD, If that's of any help at all.

Fyi, upon futher investigation I discovered that both WOW6432Node folders had to be changed in my system before I accomplished the correct resolution. This device apparently only changed the one in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, which had no affect. After changeing the one in HKEY_USERS myself the res looked correct but it evidently needed both to be changed after all. Apparently it looked okay when I changed the values in"USERS" to 1060x768 because both are 16:9. Seems a bit odd that it didn't cause problems. I have no idea why this only did the one HKEY either. Maybe it's different for DVDs, G.O.G. and Steam installations. I guess you wouldn't need this at all if using OpenMW, or MGE. Best of luck.

For anyone: dont use it. Grab MGE/MGE XE (I am pretty sure you can only use its resolution fix which supports widescreens without all that fancy distant land stuff if you dont want it) if are using vanilla Morrowind, or use OpenMW which natively supports widescreens.
OpenMW wiki states that approach on this page even with vanilla Morrowind never really worked as intended for some installations and not user-friendly with all that registry magic.
P.S. If you still dont want to run MGE, check out MCP (which is recommended for everyone) it provides the same option of ulocking different resolutions besides the default 4:3 ratio.

Couple months late but for future referance - Unzip the registry file and drop it in your Morrowind folder. Now just right click and 'Merge' it into the directory. Bam, HD.

hm, personally MGE and MGEXE sound like a pain in the ass, and I don't want an FPS optimizer, this game is 16 years old and my brand new computer runs it just fine at max settings. I just want to be able to see my goddamn magicka and fatigue bars. so I guess I'm getting this one. thanks.

I think I used to have this problem. When I couldn't see my stamina and magic effects at the bottom of my screen I had to go into settings and change my resolution and then change it back. I don't ever have to do it anymore, and I don't know why, but if it happens just try that.
