The best leveling system I've seen for this game and done minimally, only wish I discovered Linoras earlier. Unlike other popular leveling mods it preserves vanilla's intent without the OCD nightmare and makes you choose major/minor skills you'll actually use.

Funny how the best solution to the broken leveling system was made over a decade ago

the mod left a bug in the leveling system, whenever I level up a skill its attribute always goes up by 3, even after removing the mod

So, since nobody has actually elaborated on how the Misc skill penalty work, let me tell you, it's near debilitating.

You simply will never be able to rank up misc skills naturally. Rank 5 Acrobatics as a misc skill takes nearly as much jumps/xp as it would to get a level at rank 50. Skills like stealth, unless tagged, effectively become untrainable naturally in the game world unless you pay gold.

Hi everyone. I'm using openMW, but I can't get this mod to work for my previously created character. I think that I downladed the mod correctly. I marked llm-easy.esp in my data files. Do you have any tips?

Ok. I'm sorry. I found the problem. It was the italian translation.

If you would like to remove the nerfs to misc skill experience gain on this mod in the construction set, which you can download at /morrowind/mods/42196 you can follow these instructions to do what I did. It is a very easy and straightforward process.

    1. Download the construction set, place it in your Morrowind directory
    2. Open Morrowind.ini in a text editor of your choosing, I like notepad++, and add the line AllowYesToAll=1 anywhere in there
    3. Open the construction set, at the top left of the window press file and then data files
    4. Double click Morrowind.esm, Bloodmoon.esm, and Tribunal.esm so that there is an X icon next to each one - This will add dependencies to these DLCs unnecessarily but doing so will avoid dirty GMST settings that can cause incompatibilities with other mods
    5. Find llm-hard.esp (or your respective difficulty choice) in the list of data files, select it, and then press Set As Active File and press OK
    6. A warning box will pop up, press Cancel and wait for the construction set to finish loading your files
    7. When the construction set is finished loading at the top of the window press Gameplay, Settings...
    8. In the window that opens, press the Gameplay tab, and in the list under the Gameplay tab press ID above the right column.
    9. You should see a list of ID's with a * next to them, these are all the GMSTs this mod edits. What you're wanting to change is fMiscSkillBonus and fSpecialSkillBonus which should be the top two on the list.
    10. Under the value column click the value for fMiscSkillBonus and change it to 1.2500, and then for fSpecialSkillBonus change it to 0.8000

Now you can just X out of the Game Settings window, press File, and save. You should be ready to go.

I didn't think or restoring the default values but as you say it is very simple. Probably too simple for my tortured mind.
Thank you for the idea, the problem is solved.

So how would one go about removing the "misc skills harder to level" change, while keeping the "always x5" change?

I feel like this is what everyone wants out of this mod. I hope someone offers a solution eventually.

My last comment left me feeling guilty and lazy about not attempting to fix the issue. So I attempted a fix, and it worked!

Here's how you can do it too. I saw in a readme or somewhere that "two additional GMST edits" were used to gimp the misc skills. So I googled how to edit GMSTs in a mod and followed the first few google hits.

I used Enchanted Editor. It's got an old, janky, kinda scary installer but it's harmless. It lets you edit mods and such, notably for our purposes GMST changes can be edited and deleted from a mod. You open Linora's mod, search in the lefthand navigation for GMSTs and delete the two that don't look like the others. You'll see just what I mean, the remaining 9 are numbered 01-09 and have matching names. To delete the other two, select one, then select delete in the righthand navigation, and repeat for the other. Then save with the floppy disc icon or file > save, and your copy of linora's mod is overwritten. I've tested it!

Remember, for this mod, you do have to have ranked up at least once in an appropriate skill to get the multiplier for the corresponding attribute. Luck will still always be x1 because of this.

On a side note: IMO "always x3" feels more fair and appropriate than "always x5". You'll level up approximately 50 times over the course of the game on a full playthrough - that's 50x3x3 = 450 attribute points, disregarding luck at level up. You start with about 290 attribute points excluding luck, including your class's favored attributes. 290+450 = 740 points to spread across 7 attributes which max at 100 each by default. You're already pushed to put 40 points into luck at x3, and you'll already be a living god greater than Vivec. At x5, that only makes sense if you have uncapped stats and mods that require you to be that OP to beat them, or if you insist on 1 point in luck every level, or if you know you won't stick with the game for long and want it to pack a punch when you play.

      @Sircerx,

I just wanted to stop by and say thank you for making this post. It led me to using Enchated Editor to remove those edits to misc. skills that Linora made.

If (like me and everyone else in this thread) you want something that does what this mod does but without the slower leveling, use Fixed Level Multipliers instead. https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/45064

Hi, what should I do to edit this mod to always add 3x skills points? I want to remove the +5 when I level up a skill ten times. (hard mode)

Hi, can you also still gain the x4 multiplier when you use the "hard" version and have 8 stat increases?

    Thanks

Nope. It's been a while since I've worked on this mod and I don't have access to my older account anymore, but it works like this: You get x3 no matter what, unless you get at least 10 skill increases in the same attribute (major or minor), then you get the x5.

The easiest way to make this happen, except for at lower levels perhaps, is to visit a skill trainer to train some of your misc skills up. (Unless you get all of your major points in skills of the same attribute.) I think I am going to create an even harder version, that removes that. I personally felt the hard version was way too easy in my last play through. The idea is to create a system that sort of balances itself throughout an entire play through without the use of buggy scripts, and without the need to watch your stats. x3 is actually pretty huge over the long term, in practice. I think having the x5 still there actually can lead to a little stat-crunching which isn't very fun.

I think there is a huge benefit to encouraging the use of trainers, so for the the harder version, I think I'll make it even harder version to raise your misc skills naturally. After all, these are the skills outside of your class. I like the role-playing aspect of needing some extra help on those things my character didn't pick up earlier in life, and I found that in the original game I didn't even use the trainers because it was so easy to level naturally on most things.
