Someone beat me to Mass Effect 2!

    ================================================================================================================================================
    (Original comment from bla08 )

So a guy (Moonshine) made a full gamepad mod for ME2 on PC. With a controller wheel and all

You can check it out here: http://me3explorer.freeforums.org/me2-controller-support-power-wheel-t1703.html
The ME2 is already released and it works great!

Unfortunately he needs some founding to release versions for ME1 and ME3.
This is his project page: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/controller-support-for-mass-effect-1-2-3-pc#home

If you are a big fan of ME and wish there were gamepad support for PC give the guy a help by donating any kind of amount.

The old funding campaign failed, but there's a 2nd one, with lower goal too:

I just saw a news site that posted Moonshines Indiegogo link a few days ago, his work looks really good. I was wondering if you had heard anything about the progress he's made or if he's been working on the mods for ME 1 and 3 at all.

Sorry if this came out of nowhere. I played the series a ton on console and just bought it today for PC, only to find out that none of the games have native controller support. I figured you'd have more information on the topic since you're clearly interested in it.

Moonshine finished ME2 & ME3 but disappeared before he could finish ME1, but a guy named dubyk is finishing it and is actually getting very close to having it completed. In a few days/weeks we'll have a working controller mod for all ME games. He has already released alpha versions of his ME1 controller mod.

      Check out:

Sorry the new version is so late, guys, I've really been piled down with college work and my job (girl's gotta eat! ), as well as some family problems. I'll try to push out the update as soon as possible.

Hello, I recently downloaded your mod and enjoyed it but wish to now uninstall it. No matter where I look I can find no way to get rid of it. It worked well, but I want to move back to mouse and keyboard, but your mod doesn't allow to mouse to use the dialogue wheel or start menu. Thank you for making the mod but please help me uninstall it as I can now not play the game completely with the keyboard, and I can find no where else to find the right information.

Just restore the backup of the .ini config files you made... you did make a backup, right?

Otherwise, delete the edited config files and let the game create new ones. All normal functions should be restored after that.

Thanks, I enjoyed your mod, but now that I am getting used to using a keyboard with games I want to go back to that since I can use hot keys. Keep up the good work! When I was using your mod there seemed to be no major problems other than it being unable to use the power wheel. I appreciate that you took time to answer my question.

Things to Try if X,A,B,Y and the Modifier don't work:

    1. If JoyTokey is not open while the game is on, please open it and leave it running until you are not playing anymore

    2. If JoyToKey is open and the functions do not work, please try closing JoyToKey and opening JoyToKey as Administrator by right clicking on JoyToKey and clicking Run As Administrator

    3. If You have already done both of those, unplug your controller, close JoyToKey, plug your controller back in, Open JoyToKey as Administrator, and see if it works

    4. Please make sure the correct JoyToKey Profile is selected, called ME_Gameplay. When you download JoyToKey, it defaults to a blank profile, so make sure you have the mod's profile selected

If you experience the issue of the right stick locking up after pressing the D-Pad or ABXY keys, Here is a possible fix:

"I've managed to overcome that issue by remapping A B X Y to lshift, rshift, ctrl and alt as they seem to be working fine without locking up the camera movement. The dpad unfortunately still locks it up and I run out of the modifier keys."
    - res0nat0r

Possible solution for "A,B,X,Y and modifier don't work"

    "Solution for me:
    1.) In JoyToKey click "Settings(S)"
    2.) Click "Configure joysticks... (C)"
3.) Select Tab "2. Advanced setting for each device"
    4.) Select the Xbox360 Wireless Receiver/Controller
5.) Change in "Specify a preferred joystick number when this device is connected"
    from:
    - " Default (The same as Windows)"
    to:
    - "Joystick 1"
    6.) Press "OK"
    - mickare

Those buttons are handled by JoyToKey. It may be worth noting that this mod has only been tested on 64x Windows 7 PC with a DualShock 3/Speedlink Xeon controller. XP, Vista, 8, and 8.1 are not tested by me. if you are having problems please include the following details in your comment:

    1. Controller (DualShock, Xbox 360, Logitech etc)
    2. Operating System

I recently downloaded this for controller support for my Mass Effect game and all the buttons work except the B button. I thought it might be my Xbox 360 controller so swapped it for my Xbox One one, but it still isnt working at all. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I thought you should know I've been working on a more complete ME1 Controller Mod (no joytokey requirement, more of the xbox interfaces, power wheel etc) over on here:

    http://me3explorer.freeforums.org/mass-effect-1-controller-mod-t1953.html

Its starting point was your mod. I'm feel I'm pretty close to release. Just wanted to say thanks.

That's great! If you need any information from me, or if you need any help from my extremely limited skills, please feel free to ask and I'll answer as best I can!

On a side note, could you send me a copy of the decompressed Xbox files for me to play around with? Getting rid of the JoyToKey requirement has been a goal of mine for a while, but I've been having so much trouble finding out a reliable alternative. Access to the original Xbox files and configs could be really helpful!

Just removing the joytokey requirement probably doesn't do it justice really. Here are some of the things I've done off the top of my head:

      - switches over to use the XBOX360 HUD
      - Fixes the power wheel and weapon wheel
      - implements quick power which was stripped
      - implements last weapon switch which was stripped
      - Fixes the controller sensitivity issues a lot of the users have complained about on non-xbox360 controllers.
      - Fixes the XBOX equipment user interface and switches to use
      - Fixes the Squad user interface and switches to use
      - Switches the mission computer (aka pause meu) to use xbox 360 style navigate
      - Allows the quassar game to be controlled with the controller buttons.
      - Fixes the Right analog scroll in the galaxy map
      - Fixes the Right analog scroll in the mission map.
      - Fixes the dead zone issues on the galaxy map.
      - Updates all tutorial messages to reflect the xbox 360 controller
      - Fixes the xbox 360 shop interface and switches to using it.
      - Changes the mako zoom controls to work like the xbox 360
      - Tweaks to the mini games to make them better on the controller.
      ...

All these required unrealscript and/or actionscript code changes. You did pretty good in finding all the UI's that worked without code changes.

Yeah, I had a lot of trouble with finding fixes for those issues, but I tried my best. And you have no idea how happy I am that someone better than me, who actually knows what they're doing, is working on a better mod.

I literally made this learning as I went along, taking shots in the dark, reading what I could find, experimenting, etc. I never made a mod before this one, or even attempted anything like this before.

You don't mind if I maybe use some of your mod's assets in this mod? I won't distribute your files under my name or anything, I want to try and replicate what I've done here without using JoyToKey, as well as bug fixes, using your mod version as a basis. I promise I'll credit you

Fixing these issues certainly wasn't easy. It took about 6 weeks of my free time to fix all them. There were plenty of times I didn't think I'd be able to do it.

Modding is all new to me as well. Had to learn on the Job. I can go into a lot of detail about how it was created. Its a lot of hex editing and P-Code updates though. Depends if you are into that kind of thing. There is a lot of detail in the thread I posted above.

I've released the mod on the link below:

      http://www.nexusmods.com/masseffect/mods/60/?

My mod doesn't add any game assets. Its all unrealscript and actionscript code changes with one flash sprite addition/frame update.

You can't remove the Joytokey requirement without redistributing the entire mod really, which seems a little redundant (unless you were going to add something significant?)

Please do take a look at the mod though. Would love to know your opinions on it.

Great mod, I just seem to be having a few issues. I'm using a wireless xbox360 controller and this mod + the joytokey config.

1.) After pressing A to run my right joystick doesn't work for the first few seconds afterwards. Much annoying.
2.) In any menu screen, when using right bumper + left stick to move the mouse, the mouse movement is jumpy and VERY sensitive. It also will only move on either an X or Y axis at one time (left and right OR up and down. never both) In the galaxy map, it is not only super sensitive, but the curser/selector vibrates and jumps around the general area i'm trying to pinpoint, often flying way past where i'm trying to go, making selecting new locations an excersize in aggravation. I've tried tweaking the mouse sensitivity (both in game options and BioInput.ini) and analog stick control in the Bioinput.ini in the configurations folder to no avail. even setting values to 0 did nothing.
2B.) Also, when i use right bumber + left stick to move the cursor in menu, the menu options are also being highlighted in correlation with my left stick movement so i have to place the mouse where i need it to be (a hard task in it of itself) and then move through the menu again to highlight what I need.

Thanks again for the mods, everything else is wonderful

Hi I'm loving your mod! I have about 25 hrs on the game with it so far and been using the Xbox One controller and it has worked great for me. I gotta say I would definitely prefer using my Dualshock 4 as the thumbsticks on the One pad make my thumbs sore after an hour or so of use but when I try the game with the DS4 I cannot move my aim when zooming in with weapons. I was just curious as to whether anyone knows how to fix the issue?

Known issue, but it doesn't seem consistent with everyone's PC. Some people have that problem, but not others. And I don't have a DualShock 4 to test with.

But I'm glad you're enjoying it with your Xbox One pad.

Hello, I can't seem to make this mod work in the slightest. I replaced the files and and put the file in with joytokey but the game was no different than the original and the controller didn't work(xbox360) except when i pressed the right bumper and that only moved the camera with the left stick.

I'm using just the INI tweak from PCGamingWiki (not Joy2Key), and I just have one question for the author in case they have encountered this: when using an ability (I have Immunity mapped to D-pad left, for example), I cannot fire my gun for several seconds afterwards. Any idea why?

I can't say I've encountered that one, no. But my ini has always had weapons mapped to the d-pad
