I don't know if you guys know this... but if you've ever looked through a real $2000 SLR you'd know that that's ho they really look, the little squares are autofocosing points. What id like to see in a mod is a mod that makes the camera actually autofocus and have the points turn red when they lock in focus. Aka even more realistic. But if they annoy you this mod is for you!
Came here looking for a control for the minimap size, as it's glitched in SuperHD (2k 3k) and can take upto a quarter of the screen depending on the resolution. I like the functions of the minimap already, but ..it's good to see an HUD modder on Nexus FC3.
I want to be able to take screenshots without any HUD UI, like in Skyrim when I use the console command "tm" to toggle menus. The camera seems like the most logical device in FC3 for this. When not using the camera, I still want to see my minimap, ammo, waypoints, "hold E to loot" notification, etc. I just want the camera to be devoid of any HUD elements for screenshot purposes. How can I do this? What files need to be edited, and how do I do that? I already know how to mod weapon values, so I have some basic knowledge in FC3 modding.
If you check out the official Ubi Far Cry modding forum, you will find many no-minimap mods which are usually are included with other mods too.
I probably won't be making one of these myself because it has already been done, and (IIRC) it required a lot of batch-processing of files in order to make it invisible - I also prefer to play with the minimap.
Is there any possible way you can make an alternate version of this mod with no mini-map?
I have used Hex Editor to get rid of it all the HUD elements, including mini-map, but then I have died many times in areas where you must press specific QTE button prompts.
After the latest official patch added some options to remove HUD elements I tried going back to the vanilla .dll file, but unfortunately, there is still no option to remove mini-map, only the reticle and objective pop-ups.
I thought about doing that but I am not sure of the legality of that as opposed to packing the files into a format that can only be used in FC3. Nevertheless, if it becomes the trend to upload files as raws then I will do that later on (when the patch is more substantial).
At any rate, users will have to understand how to merge mods in order to use my files with another mod, so it doesn't really take much longer in the end result (just running a batch file which they should already have set up).
Have fixed a few more things since current version, will update it within a week or so.
It's nice that you have documented the files you changed but it might be a better idea to just post a raw version of the files certainly saves some time unpacking the damn thing.
Yeah, I listed the files I modified because I noticed other modders were being lazy and not keeping track of their changes, which makes it very hard to merge mods together. Obviously much easier for mine because there's only currently a few files changed.
What do you mean about the wallhack removal not working too well? As far as I can tell it is a simple hex edit to the .dll file, which turns it on or off.
I intend to add more files that remove or change elements of the camera HUD (New Years kind of got in the way of working on this), but I doubt I will remove everything, simply because I would like it to look like a camera HUD - however, yes, I may upload those files as alternates since it is fairly simple. I do not think though that there is a way to remove the key bindings information at the bottom of the screen because it is generated by the game, so it will not ever be completely clear (until someone figures out how to do this).
I am no expert photographer but I have not used a camera (nor would I use a camera) that intentionally blocked out the screen with fussy elements - and didn't allow them to be toggled off!
Either way, I'm not really aiming for realism, here, just a clearer view using the camera ">
