Just letting you know that I'm now collaborating with Necrocytosis on this mod.
STOP PRESS: v3.1 is out. Please note that the file "BuildableBurningCampfires - Textures.BA2" is no longer required. Please delete it from your data folder if it is present.
There's a "no NPC burn damage" version available in the Downloads section, in case you don't like your settlers stumbling into the campfires and getting burnt. It also halves the burn damage the player receives.
So as Steve40 says, we are now colaborating on this project...or more like i pulled out for the time beeing because I recent the shitty tools we have and that there are unforseen bugs when we have tools that are not official. And Steve40 is helping me out! So be sure to thank him properly for the hard work!
EDIT: Removed the part about collision meshes as we since the release of the Creation Kit 2.0 have the tools to create our own collision in 3ds max 2013.
This is one of the mods that I brought along with me when I jumped ship from Xbox to PC. It's simple but brilliant!
A series of campfires is unlocked for building by this mod. There are two 'types' for each design - one is just a free-standing campfire that rests on the floor, while the other is attached to a dome-shaped mound of 'dirt' that clips into the ground, enabling you to place one without it looking like it's floating. You get a series of campfire designs in each 'type', ranging from a simple burning pile of twigs, to an elaborate, breeze-block-surrounded fire. The best part is, they all glow very brightly, with good range, and they all cast shadows. It's one of the most atmospheric mods you can use in a settlement.
The ones atop of dirt mounds are brilliant for placing on top of 'extinguished' camp fires in settlements (such as Greygarden) which can't be deleted without mods. The dirt will just cover it up, and you get to reignite the fire!
My favourite piece, however, and possibly weirdly, is the simple, flat, fire-free concrete platform made out of breezeblocks. It's intended to make having campfires indoors seem more sensible, but I use it for the burning barrel - as a kind of central heating.
You also get a series of fireplaces, including those pre-war metal ones. With Place Everywhere installed too, you can clip those into the ones in Sanctuary to bring the houses back to life, with a nice, warm glow to boot!
I would like a version where the player doesn't burn at all either. Or if there is a way to use FO4Edit or similar to remove the burning behavior, please let me know. I installed and set it up once, but when the player burns, he becomes aware that he is taking damage by approaching the object and consciously avoids that location when placing it in his base, which is uncomfortable. For this reason, I removed it. It would be nice to be able to place it in a safe location.
Hmm, well, if by "in his base" you mean indoors, then when indoors I only use the semi-enclosed or enclosed fireplaces (i.e. ones typically placed against a wall. Your player won't accidently run into them nor burn. Of course, you'd still have to pay attention to open campfire types but then your player character in many games should expect to take burn damage when entering any fire.
Anyway guys, great mod. Had it for two years now. Endorsed ages ago. Cheers.
Hi! Awesome job, but sadly not works together with nuclear winter and with frost survival mods. I mean no produce heat and even no burning damage if i step to it.
They wouldn't as NW is its own mod so you shouldn't expect that to work out of the box. Lucky for you someone already made a mod patch for NW and this mod, it is on nexus. It will let NW recognize this mod's fires as giving warmth. Sometimes it pays to look first.
This is amazing. And perfect. For people like me who have no knowledge of making mods, I greatly appreciate people like you who make things I didn't even know I needed. :)

What workbench do I have to use to make the Fire place? I have looked in all the workbenches for it?
