Greatest mod ever made. only thing better target preston > MarkForDelete I mean it seems standard practice for bethesda to make the only people you ever actually want to kill, indestructable, with the exception of the railroad, still never get thorough that meeting without blowing all their heads off.
i like a mod that just fixes the ppl with Preston (like how much they harvest & that they wont go around fixing houses when it doesn't do nothing, doesn't actually fix them) or makes them not count as settlers & removes them from pop limit, is there mod like that?
temporary fix, once i get settlers in i make them scavengers, then them doing what they are doing seems less wrong
EDIT: harvest issue was temporary bug, each use to harvest 1 food lol that is when i singed them on food after beeing away for a while & returning i so it was sorted out, but still they need a fix :D
Have to admit there's a temptation to install this mod. Did my ONE minuteman playthrough, and never again.
Some alternatives.
Take the "First Step" quest, but NEVER talk to Preston again for the rest of the game. You can still establish as many (or few) settlements as you want (kill everyone squatting there and start fresh if you have to) along with the recruitment tower to get settlers. You'll have some surprisingly peaceful settlements that never b&@*$ or whine about those mean raiders on the other side of the map, no kidnappings, and no greenskins. Just settlements. They can still get attacked, but you'll never have to deal with radiant quests.
Never make a chair for Mama Murphy. Once you do, she won't work the rest of the game. If you never make her the chair, she can still be assigned manual labor like any other settler.
Sturges will work a scavenging station if assigned. However, if you have him complete the molecular relay, he'll be completely dead weight the rest of the game. Build the relay with the Railroad or Brotherhood. You can always pick a side later.
Marcy and June - download the mod that makes them shut the F*$K up, and put 'em to work like any other settler. Failing that, console "disable". Very satisfying.
You can still take the Castle, without the minutemen. You won't get artillery, but it's a settlement option with access to water and location.
The only thing I'm worried about is that killing the Minutemen before you finish the quest to get them to Sanctuary will definitely break that quest, *might* make it impossible to recruit Codsworth, and I think, maybe, might possibly interfere with the main quest. Though I'd think you should be able to pick that up in Diamond City.
Given that the voice-over for the ending doesn't seem to depend on who you complete the game with, I'd imagine it can't be that hard to trigger one of the last fights with some yet-to-be-created mod faction. Certainly once the GECK comes out it seems like an inevitability. I hardly know a thing right now, but maybe if I do some learning I can take a crack at it.
It doesn't matter if you kill Preston or not. He will respawn. I gunned him down and disabled him and after one fast travel he was right back spamming me with more quests than before.

being forced to interact with NPCs that get useless/annoying later in the game is just Lazy.

But yeah, if you kill the other 3 factions after killing Preston you won't be able to finish the game. Kinda goes without saying though.
