I'd like to see any recommendations that anyone would have for this mod. Keep in mind that this is my first mod and I would like to know any ways you think that I can improve it no matter how basic it is. I didn't expect to get this many downloads for it so I will be focusing a little more on it in the future and hopefully I will add more content, one of which is different ways to harvest steel and adding more complexity to it. I also my create other ways to harvest other materials in the near future, but first I will see how far I can go with this simple mod.

I really like the idea but I think the model takes up way too much real estate for what it does.

If I would have a recommendation, replace the default nif or reference and do the same thing but reference a smaller object (20a251 - FoundrySmeltingPot01Molten - for example might be ideal for both the usage and size) and this would totally be something I would add to my existing settlements to give them an extra job to do without having to have 20 scav stations or trader mats wasting space.

I was looking for different models to use for a smaller version, I agree that the shack is a bit too big for some settlements. I only kept the shack because I only build in bigger settlements and I keep it in the outskirts. Expect to see a version using this model or a similar one soon.

This is the start of a wonderful mod and I think it's only a matter of time before somebody like you made it.

Once a faction gathers enough members, a sort of industry needs to be established in order to sustain itself. Fallout 4 already got the basics right by letting you "manufacture" water, crops and random items of junk. This makes sense when you have ONE settlement with about 10 settlers.

But when you have about 25 settlements with at least 25 each, you already have around 625 settlers. The commonwealth is no longer a wasteland. Some sort of an industry or a manufacturing system is bound to prop up, since civilization is being born again.

To make this happen, I'd like to see a mod that works like scavenger stations except, they help "manufacture" a specific item like

      1) Metals : Steel, Copper, Aluminium, Gold, Silver
      2) Wood, Fertilizer, Crystal, Glass etc (materials)
      3) Chems : Jet, Mentats, Buffout, Stimpaks, RadX and Radaway.
      4) Ammo
      5) Specific armor pieces like leather, combat, synth, metal etc
      6) Weapons
      7) Fusion cores

Obviously, spreading your workforce of 625 men among all of these resources would yield just as much as you'd gather from regular scavenging you do by yourself. So a good strategic choice for a player is to concentrate all of his workforce on a small subset of the above listed items so that he/she can gather those more than the rest. But it still adds immersion and makes game interesting.

Thats something similar to what I am planning now. With a scrapper 3 perk, something similar to manufacturing would be more rewarding. Originally I wanted to make this mod behave in such a way where settlers would go out and find metal but I have limited knowledge of how to mod fallout 4 so that will have to wait. I also plan on making the mod a little more realistic, instead of just harvesting steel, you would instead harvest scraps where you would then have to melt them down to steel (as per another person suggested before). I had no plans to add things such as fusion cores because those are relatively easy to get even in survival mode (I've never had less than 30 at any given time and I use my power armor very often).

This also gives me another idea. Instead of just getting metal, one could also sort and melt the scraps to get stuff such as aluminum, copper, etc. But I didn't have the idea until you came up with it.

Copper is definitely more of a problem finding than Steel. Aluminum too! We could use mines and smelters in Fallout 4! LOL!

Will be adding this in the future. I am currently trying to figure out how to randomize the type and quantity of steel that you get from the shed. If anyone has an idea i'd love to hear it.

great mod, one question or idea is it compatible with the vault tec management terminal so we can assign settlers to it from this terminal?

It should be compatible. I've never tried to use it. I'll test it once I get the chance.

Love this idea, just encountered a steel shortage and stumbled across this. Not sure if you're still working on it but how about a scrap car for the custom mesh? Not sure how hard it will be to re-purpose the existing game meshes but I always wanted to build a car scrapyard settlement, this will fit in so well.

...after downloading, noticed you have a big cauldron mesh as an alternative. Also works as well, might try to build a refinery settlement...

I am I just haven't played Fallout 4 in a while. A scrap car is a good idea though for an alternative. I want to add custom meshes in the future if I can find someone who can make them for me or learn on my own.

I'd like to see alternative model or something, so that this shed would be actually a pile of scrap parts and metal junk and an animation like on scavenging station so that the settler would use welder to cut metal pieces apart. I think this would be realistic and cool looking at the same time.

Just a suggestion, good luck in working on that mod.

    P.S.
Sorry if my spelling is wrong somewhere.

This is exactly what I plan to do in the future. I need someone who knows how to make models or someone who can point to some idea on how I can implement it myself. The former would be better because I don't have much time to do it myself yet. If anyone knows how to make models and/or import them they should shoot me a PM.

Thanks for the support. I didn't expect it to get nearly this much attention. Now since the CK is out I may be able to add new features in the future

Could you add a version with more yield than 30? 30 seems too low especially when you're entire towns, perhaps varients of 30, 60, 100, 150 etc.

Of course. I've taken a break though and am focusing on job searching and other life related things now. Its hell for college graduates finding jobs. And with a BS in Computer Science, it shouldn't be as hard as it is but that's not the case. I can't promise one soon though. I can make a version in 2 weeks but I won't be able to test it. If it doesn't work, although it should since it would only be one simple edit, you can message me and let me know whats going on or leave a comment. Even though I am not playing/modding atm, I still logon from time to time.

excelent i was going to suggest something like this when i found this mod. just need more stations for the other materials honestly i would like the old woodcutters stump from skyrim to gather wood but i dont think they left that in here.

Thats also a plan or the future when I get this mod where I want it to be. It shouldn't take too much longer as there are only about 4 more tasks for this mod. I also plan to make custom meshes for the stations or find someone else who can make them for me, whichever comes first. There is also a mod out already for wood it should be in the credits. Sadly it doesn't have the stump from skyrim .

This mod had potential to make fallout 4 into resource management game like anno series keep it up man,
So i have question, it' is possible to make special work station for each companion? , cuz they are useless in settlement

Yes actually, that is one of the new features that I am looking into right now. In the future you won't get the raw components. You will instead get less pure components that you will have to separate/refine, etc. Although I am not entirely sure how that will work yet. I plan on creating an entirely separate workstation just for this like you said, however if I am able to use what is already there I will. It won't make any sense in doubling the work I would have to do. Thanks for the input and encouragement i'm glad you see something that this mod can be!

    Hi
Love your mod, cant you make one for glas and concrete allso?
glas harvest=maybe a sandpit with a fire beside it,

concrete harvester=sandpit and beside it is bucket with Water and bags beside it
Or maybe a big rock the settlers can hack on with a hammer

Those are what I plan on doing next once I get far enough in this mod. Also thank you for the ideas I have not even thought that far ahead for what the models would be.

This is an interesting idea. I don't actually need steel in my games - it's aluminium and copper i never seem to have enough of! But i can see how it could work.

Maybe for play balance it would require power? Historically, electricity made a huge difference to smelters and recycling. Aluminium was once a precious metal, would you believe!

If the CK was out, i'd suggest making it spawn attacks by the Forged, who want it for themselves!

That's a great idea! I'll do just that when the CK is released. Or if I learn i'll add forged to raider attacks on settlements. Possibly raising the chance of them attacking if you have any aluminum, steel, and copper harvesters. On another note, I do plan on creating aluminum and copper harvesters, although you will get less than steel due to balancing reasons. Or maybe not depending on the input I get.
