unfortunately just noticed this mod is almost 4 years old and has never been updated; combine that with multiple weapons weighing over 70#, with no hope of the author fixing it, and someone needs to declare****this mod is dead/abandoned.**** Interesting idea, but game breaking; and I'm not going in and modifying a bunch of values for a bunch of weapons in my Fallout4.esm just for an abandoned mod.
Anyone interested in fixing the Submachine guns insane weight and knows how to use FO4Edit, go to Fallout4.esm > Object Modification then click the EditorID bar at the top to organise alphabetically then go down to find mod_submachinegun (or whatever weapon is ludicrously heavy) then change the Property=Weight [Value 1 - Float] (4th property down usually) to whatever you want. For whatever reason the mod author made most of the smgs mods weight 4 or 9 which, like the chap below mentions, is crazy when it MUL+ADDs those values with other mods and base weapon. I overwrote them with the vanilla fallout4.esm values which makes the base smg weight 16.2. Still a little heavy but not as insane as it was. Hope this helps for other users.
The reason behind the high weights is how the game calculates attachment weight. Each weapon has a base weight and the attachment has a multiply + add formula that runs off all that to come up with a total weight. To fix this you would need to replace the MUL+ADD forumla with just the ADD one and re-do the number values to match whatever weight is intended. Essentially an entire overhaul of this mod.
Hello is there any way to fix the weight of some weapons? The submachine gun for me weighs around 80 pounds and im playing with frost survival so i can't carry the weapon without getting encumbered
Yeah i got the same problem, SMG weighs about 97lb which is unfortunate as i actually wouldnt mind using it for once. FO4Edit didnt show any reason why this is the case. I checked all the weapon mods and the weights dont dont show anything out of the ordinary. As this mod doesnt have a patch for ArmorKeywords.esm I had to overwrite it with this mods weapon weights, then delete this mods weapon entries. Im hoping that this didnt cause this problem. Otherwise great mod. I can finally use more than one weapon in survival.
quick update i decided to try to load it above horizon and its fine if it gets loaded blow horizon it breaks damage. so load this mod first before horizon in your load order
I imagine the 10lb classification is for the head of the sledgehammer, thus you need to add the weight of the handle to get the actual carry wieght. That is just a guess though.
Though I'd also be interested in seeing somewhere in a description, a few examples of what weapons got lighter and what weapons got heavier. If nothing else but for comparison.
The vanilla game uses pounds. A simple feature exists to test this: There are dumbbells in the game with weight values. An 80 lbs dumbbell took up 80 units of inventory space so the game is clearly in a 1 lb = 1 lb system.
I pulled some real world weapon weights up using unloaded values since Fallout ammo has no weight.
M4 (Shotgun): 7.8 lbs Hi-Point 4595 (.45): 7 lbs .50 cal: not going to bother I know they weigh 25-35 lbs easy Sako A7 Roughtech (.308): 6.8 lbs Walter PP: 0.9 lbs - 1.7 lbs (depending on model)
Here are the same cartridge sizes in game: Combat Rifle: Base 11.1 lbs Calibrated Powerful Receiver, Long Ported Barrel, Recoil Compensating Stock, Large Quick Eject Mag, Reflex Sight, Muzzle Brake = 19.9 lbs
Combat Shotgun: Base 11.1 lbs Advanced Receiver, Long Ported and Shielded Barrel, Recoil Compensating Stock, Quick Eject Drum Mag, no sight, Compensator = 21.5 lbs
Hunting Rifle: (Close to realistic look with medium scope) 13 lbs Calibrated Powerful Receiver, Long Ported Barrel, Marksman's Stock, Large Quick Eject Mag, Medium Scope, Muzzle Brake = 17.7 lbs
Deliverer (AKA a Walter PP Brace yourselves this is abysmal): Base 3.6 lbs! (A baseball bat is only 3) Advanced Receiver, Extended Barrel, Sharpshooter's Grip, Large Quick Eject Mag, Glow Sights, Suppressor = 6.9 lbs!!! (As much as a fucking modern rifle)
With the exception of that last one it seems they have factored ammo weight into the weapons themselves (somewhat inaccurately I might add as the typical 30 round mag only adds a average of about 1.5 lbs to a weapon).
So really just factor out the ammo approximate weights and you got yourself a mod.
Yeah I don't get why adding mods can double a weapon's weight in this game. You're not adding your replacing, and sometimes with better or lighter materials.
On the combat shotgun, a different receiver, stock, mag, scope and muzzle brake shouldn't double the weight of the weapon, but adding a longer barrel should increase it a bit as that's where you're adding a lot more metal.
Except if you use those weights as a base, you get about double the weight in game. A fully modded combat rifle does not weight 20 pounds for the simple reason that someone has to carry the damn thing to where the combat is happening, and arriving exhausted is a bad way to start a battle lol.
This can be handwaved since ammo is weightless, but if you go the other way and use an ammo weight mod (like you might if you're going for realism), then the weapon weights need to be realistic as well or you're going to be way heavy. Add in a carry weight mod that puts your carry weight at something realistic (mine is 100 + str bonus) and you've got a major gameplay issue there :\
I like the approach this mod takes and will happily use and endorse it provided the other issue I posted can be worked out.
Point made. A fully customized rifle (in-game the Assault Rifle and Combat Rifle) would realistically only be from 6 to 8 lbs. Anything above that just makes no damn sense. Even that Fat Man makes no sense being over 20 lbs because its frame is mostly thin aluminum. The ammo is most of the Fat Man's weight but that is already added since the ammo has weight already. Fat Man should be at MOST 10 lbs and the rocket launcher between 12 and 15 lbs since it is a thicker steel frame with a blast cone on the back.
If someone can send me a link on how I can mod these weights I can try to make a mod with more reasonable weights. I've never tried modding Fallout 4 (only New Vegas and it was very minimal).
Assault rifle in FO4 is a LMG, not a rifle. There is no way that would weigh 8-10 lbs since the longer barrel and overall DT cooling design would make it heavier since, it is, infact an LMG.
You don't even need to mention this tidbit to people - in Fallout 3, one of the loading tips specifically stated that weight was measured in pounds. I'm only mentioning this because some people either don't know what weight is measured in, or (as I've encountered) surprisingly militant people claiming that it wasn't measured in pounds.
At one point I seriously considered and got like 10% into a mod that converted all weights to kilos because I much prefer the metric system, even tweaking the carry weight formula to take into account SI units. At that point though I was modding my game far more than I was playing it, more than I ever modded anything before, so I just said 'screw it' and dropped it.
