I agree that Beowulf is more likely than BMG, but honestly, 38acp just ain't right. Closest thing we've had in the U.S. was .38 super, but that was a much hotter cartridge than the .38 in game seems to be. To be frank, if it LOOKS like 9mm, ACTS like 9mm, and BARKS like 9mm -- it's 9mm.

Could it be a .380 ACP? I don't really want to change the names too much.

.38 special would be more appropriate,380acp is often referred to as 9mm short. and what about .40 S&W for 10mm... the 10mm guns dont do enough damage, 10mm is a longer/higher power .40 cal round same as 9mm/380acp

Given that the round is fired exclusively (at least that I've found in the game) in semi auto/auto weapons, .38 shouldn't be .38 Special. The rimmed cartridge (designed for revolvers) would have feeding issues unless a specific design was used on the magazines, and it's generally a pain to do. Coonan is pretty much the only manufacturer to bother, and that was intended for .357 Mag, with the side benefit of being able to feed .38 Spcl.

However, based on actual bullet diameters, .38 is 9mm, which uses a rimless case design specifically for auto loading firearms. So yeah, as theOTHERmaninblack says, 9mm really does fit. I have no idea why they didn't just call it 9mm in the first place.

Same idea for 10mm, the bullet diameter is the same as the .40 S&W (which was basically a shorter 10mm, to reduce the recoil and increase control-ability). While 10mm is an auto loading cartridge, it's also just about the meanest thing you'll ever see fired out of an auto handgun. About the only things that hit harder out of a pistol, would be fired out of a revolver (.44 mag is what I'm thinking of here, possibly .357 mag as well). Which in turn, make it very hard on the shooter, and difficult to make follow up shots, which is where .40 S&W came in.

Well... far tooo late for a response....

      But actually "Just" 38.cal in itself is exactly the same size like the 9mm. (38cal. = 9mm / 40cal. = 10mm / 308cal. = 7.62mm / 50cal. = 12.7 / 223.cal = 5.56mm.)
Just a different unit of measue. So since there is the deliverer pistol existing, which is bassically extremely looking like an old walther PPK you can indeed claim it as the older .380acp.
Otherwise it could be the 9x19mm Parabellum, which is nowadays the most used usual western handgun and even SMG rounds.
But since Fallout weirdly only using stone age old guns as ballistic guns (FO4 even way older than FO3 or New Vegas) I'd really go for .380acp.

Honestly I don't think it's wrong as it is on vanilla.
Just if you got 2 different types of the same diameter it would make sense. (for example 50. BMG anti material rifles compared to 50. AE for the Desert Eagle or Smith & Wesson 500.)

And that's why I totally can't understand if "new calibers mod" adding another 12,7 mm 7.62 mm types for western guns if it's actually already existing in the game...
      Probably lack of knowledge.
Would be a different case if it's for example a russian 7.62 which you get on the handmade Rifle in Nuka World DLC (Russian one is only 7.62 x *45* while the Nato Type is 7.62 x *51* )

Regarding the 5mm ammo. I suggest either 5mm Remington Rimfire, 5mm Remington Mag, 5mm Rimfire Magnum, or 5mm Rimfire Mag. Personally, if you went with a brand name recognition I'd go with 5mm Remington Mag, and without a brand name I'd go with 5mm Rimfire Magnum.
