I never saw the ad, but I remember reading about the rediscovery of the (long presumed extinct) prehistoric species by Thor Heyerdahl and the others on the raft Kon-Tiki when they proved conclusively that Polynesians very possibly if not likely colonized the islands from South America using balsawood rafts. While fishing for their dinners, they managed to catch a coelacanth in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
ADDENDUM: I forgot to add my admiration that you considered adding a species that was presumed gone once already as a survivor of the Great War.
