Working on a compatibility patch for See-Through Combat Scopes

Edit: It should be noted that making the compatibility patch is significantly more involved than making my mod due to the fact that in addition to altering the meshes I have to adjust the camera position and fov in an .esp for several guns, fix the reticle and dot position, and test to ensure that bullets and crosshairs are aligned perfectly.

Needless to say, it's time consuming and probably won't be available by Monday - but it is coming eventually. In the mean time I'd recommend using the "ADD" option from See-Through Combat Scopes.

There are only a couple of thing's that bug me about this mod is that it doesn't use the same textures as "High quality black rifle recon scope" by DirtyAlie. When installed together, the smaller scopes don't match the retexture DirtyAlien made, they show the vanilla textures instead.

Also, it would have been sweet if this affected Toasty Fresh's Anti Material Rifle and Pasta rifle. Those scopes take up too much of the screen, and I end up using only the standard or reflex sights so I can see but can't take advantage of the recon scope's hostile target marking system or the increased distance.

Those are my only gripes. Everything else is awesome, especially if you combine it with "Lowered Weapons" by lesma66. You get back SO much screen space when used together.

Hey, mindbody. In the process of building a mod list for a new playthrough and saw your comment on a thread I made several years ago. THANK YOU for this! The massive house that is the vanilla mesh is just absurd. This is exactly what I've wanted for this. Keeps the shape but makes it sensible in size.

    You rock!

I just loaded this mod but I can't get it to work with 'See through scopes" ver_2.11, All the scopes stay the same size. Checked manually, files are in the correct place. Seems to run normal without it. Hard to play without see through scopes though.

The See-through scopes are not affected currently. Only the vanilla ones.

Nice Mod i hate it when the Scope block near my entire Monitor.Much more when i want to launch nades in a Fight. But i see that the Mod don't Change the Scope for all weapons. It Change the Scopes only for my bigger Guns where i normal don't use Rec Scope. On my Sniper Combat Riffle the Mod change nothing and i test it even on my Combat Shotgun it don't Change.

Hi, GladiusVictorius (nice username), sorry you're having problems with the mod.

I've just checked the FOMOD installer via Nexus Mod Manager and I can verify that it is working as it should. Therefore I believe your problem arises from one of the following:
      Spoiler:
      Show

      • You could be using an obsolete version of the mod: when I first released this mod the ModuleConfig.xml had an error caused by an ampersand in an image file name causing installation via NMM to fail. I corrected this problem within hours and replaced the .zip file with one that works properly. The faulty file is named Smaller Recon Scopes 1_0. The one you should have is called Smaller Recon Scopes BAIN Wizard_Fixed FOMOD. If you have the former, please delete it and download the current file. NVM I checked that you downloaded the correct version.
      • You might have installed the mod improperly: In the installer the fourth option correlates to sniper/hunting rifles, combat rifles, and combat shotguns. Make sure you check one of the four options listed (80%, 66%, 50% Back Position, or 50% Forward Position) before clicking next. If one of these options is chosen you can verify it by looking in your Fallout 4 installation folder in the file path Data\Meshes\Weapons\ReconScope\ and looking for a file called ReconScopeRifle.nif.
If that file is present then the mod is installed correctly for that option.

You can always install the file manually if you wish, to confirm: Download Smaller Recon Scopes BAIN Wizard_Fixed FOMOD-28402-1-0.zip and extract somewhere. Choose a size/position you want for the Sniper/Combat Rifle/Combat Shotgun recon scope (50% Back, 50% Forward, 66%, or 80%) and open the corresponding folder (i.e. 40 Hunting, Sniper, and Combat Rifles; Combat Shotguns 50% Back). Copy the Meshes folder and paste it into your Fallout 4\ Data folder, clicking yes to overwrite/merge.

      • You could be using a conflicting mod: if my mod is installed before another mod (like Recon Scope to Long Scope Mesh) which alters the same meshes, the other file will overwrite this one.
To check if that is occurring, please look in the file path Data\Meshes\Weapons\ReconScope\, find ReconScopeRifle.nif, and open it using NifSkope. Expand the 0 NiNode line and right-click on13 BSTriShape and in the context menu select Transform>Edit. On the small popup window the Scale should be set to your choice from installing the mod, in decimal form (i.e. .5000 for 50%, etc.).
If the Scale value is incorrect based on your installation choice, then another mod is overwriting the same mesh. To fix, please ensure my mod is installed after any other mod which alters the same meshes.

      • Another mod's .esp could have altered the default name and/or location of the recon scope mesh. See-Through Combat Scopes, e.g., is a popular mod that changes the names of the meshes controlling the recon scopes, so if you have this mod installed you will only notice my mod working on the Long Recon Scope; the Short Recon Scope and the Combat Recon Scope are altered by the other mod and will use that mod's new meshes.
I'm currently working on compatibility patches for See-Through Combat Scopes, so if that is the origin of your issue you will need to wait for the patch to be released - or otherwise use the Long Recon Scope exclusively.

I hope this helps. If none of the above apply to your situation, please let me know (I may ask for your mod list/load order).

I never knew that I needed this mod until now. These days I'm mostly using weapon mods that have their own custom scopes and reticles, but I've been using a mesh swap to replace the recon scope meshes with the standard scope meshes for a long time. The recon scopes are just so damn big it felt like carrying around a TV on my rifle or something. This makes them actually look good, and a hell of a lot less obstructive.

Any known issues with See-Through Combat Scopes ? I'm gonna check it out here in a bit, so I'll report back.

As long as you use the "add" option and not the "replace" option it should be fine, though i suppose a compatibility patch could be made.

Edit: Yeah, his file permissions would allow for that, so I think i might go ahead and make one.

Yep, they work fine with one another. I'm using the STCS version that just adds the new ones instead of replacing the vanilla ones. I'm not sure if the recon combat scopes really need a size reduction as badly as the vanilla recon scopes did. They're already a bit on the smaller side. It could be good though. This plays well with Modern Scope Reticles as well to replace the vanilla reticles with some slightly nicer ones.

This is an excellent change. I went with the 66% option for most of them. I kept the vanilla recon scope for the assault rifle. I went with the 50% version for the 44. It definitely makes them a lot more usable. Thanks for sharing your work!

      So, I made a proof-of-concept for a See-Through Combat Scopes compatibility patch.
      Spoiler:
      Show
the zoom is a little high and the reticle a little off but that's not important for demonstration purposes

The only problem is I have to edit the camera position and fov in the 3dscopes-replacer.esp for each and every scope option for all the guns that doesn't use the scope-view camera or whatever-it's-called (so, mostly pistols). That would mean using a single .esp replacer for all pistols (making them all 50%, 66%, 80%, or whatever) and losing modularity, making seperate standalone .esps for each pistol (adding at least 3 more .esps to your load order), or trying to develop a patcher to add the data at the end of installation.

I'm going to play around with it some more and see what works best.

That does definitely look like an improvement. I think this could have a lot of potential for conflicts with other mods though, for what it's worth. There are a ton of custom weapon mods that use the See-Through Scopes framework, but utilize their own custom meshes for the actual scopes. There are also big weapon mods (like Weaponsmith Extended) that also have a dependency on the See-Through Scopes esp, and that could potentially cause issues. Maybe I'm way off base on that, but it's probably worth mentioning.

mod works fine but the NMM installer has a consistent error "problem install" dunno y exactly but installed manually. these are quite nice as i chose the 66 and the 50 back was the only deviation for me, thanks for this btw

Thanks, I'll take a look at it.

Edit: Yeah, there's definitely something wrong with the ModuleConfig.xml and I can't find what it is. I've got an earlier version that is working so I'm going to update it and upload shortly.
Edit[sup]Edit[/sup]: It was a damn ampersand in an image name ffs. An ampersand threw an error that stopped the entire installation.
Edit[sup]Edit[/sup][sup]Edit[/sup]: Fixed file tested and uploaded ;)

    Nice. Thank you.

How much testing in-game have you done to make sure point of aim is still valid?

Edit: NM. I'm brain dead. I'm guessing this only impacts non-zoom. So point of aim is a non-issue.

Look's great, the recon scope was typical bethesda, big, chunky and ugly so your mod is a very welcome fix, there are also some re-textures for the recon scopes that also may help.
