i'm going to test the 550 setting, it was at 700 somehting, anyway i will come back to report it, btw, what would happen if i wanted to go even lower, is there a threshold where it might screw with something if i go to low? EDIT: it seems to be running a bit better, but still getting stutter and i'm going to adjust it some more and see how it preforms at maybe 350.
ok, so this setting didn't really seem to help much, however i found another tweak that did help. changing both your ini prefs and the general ini setting of this, bUseCombinedObjects=0 it was a 1 but is now set to 0 and this helped significantly, however i'm still not sure if your tweak helped or not, i still have it set to 350 even though i'm not sure it even works, it could be helping along side this other tweak for all i know.
hmn, i didn't even think god rays would help, but it's good we both learned something from this. anyway i got this tweak from this page. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/36352?tab=description
here is another tweak i just found, aparently it helped in the stuttering issues in starfield and people asked him to port it to this game, and people say it's really good, i have not yet tried it, but i'm going to later today. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/74841?tab=posts
People from the future, do NOT set bUseCombinedObjects=0 unless you love drawcalls and low FPS. This turns off precombines and would significantly reduce preformance. cubbyman1 smoking that good stuff.
@dooderek i don't claim to be an expert in these things, but all i can say is what worked for me, and PS. my fps were running way better when i made this one little tweak, it went from doing only 40fps in the major problem area to doing 70fps after this tweak, so call this information what you may, the results don't lie.
i will admit that i was also using the fps fix mod that unlocks fps speeds significantly.
Modder says to look for a line in the prefs.ini and then miswrites the line we need to look for. It's like saying go get a fruit from peartr instead of the pear-tree.
Wasn't and am not trying to get at WhoCaresomg, just pointing out an error...
have you given it a try, jimmy? if this works, it'll be the first time any of the fps mods/tweaks I've seen on here will have been a success. low frame rates in the city are the one thing I've never been able to fix with this game...
@dod It's not about who can figure it out or not, it's about instructions that need to be correct -literally- to the letter. And since when is correcting a mistake whining? If it is in your book, then, hey!, don't whine about it...
And since it's "just" two letters, you delete those letters and see what happens
What? He tells you to ctrl + f "imaxdesir", which brings you instantly to iMaxDesired. This really isn't a big deal, you couldn't possibly mess up if you followed exactly what he said.
If you delete those "Two letter" its still comes up with the same line....If you can't understand he just wants you to edit that line and change the number value you shouldn't be editing ini's at all
I searched imaxdes and lowered the number It worked 100%
If I search again for iMaxDesired will it be even better? Can someone please post the new directions that work better? This is beyond confusing.
Edit: OK I burned my computer, got a new one, did a fresh install, and searched iMaxDesired this time. I got the same FPS but everything smells better. Thanks for the warning about these mod directions.

Edit:
Centerman states 6000 - but that's way above the original (750) and the author says to decrease the number. What numbers do you use Jimmy?
I may even try it at 550, as the author suggests.

If you can't do a simple 2+2 then perhaps you really shouldn't try to alter the .ini.
It worked 100%

You download the file 'Fallout4 Performance increase-22349-.zip' and unzip it to get 'Fallout4.txt.'
Open that with your favorite text editor (Notepad, Notepad2 or Notepad++) and follow the instructions for editing the 'Fallout4Prefs.ini file.
You don't actually need to DL it though - here are the complete instructions...
Go to My Documents, My Games, Fallout4, then find Fallout4prefs.ini and open it in a text editor.
Find the following:
[Particles]
iMaxDesired=750
Change that number to 650, or 550 for even more performance.
