I've got many, many texture packs installed, covering pretty much everything you can imagine. 25gb worth of loose textures. I started this thing when I went to bed last night, seven hours ago. It is STILL RUNNING. Has another 25% to go.

I sure hope the game runs smooth as silk when it finally finishes.

I hope your PC has 4 or more cores and plenty of grunt for that much data! Yikes.

Be sure to create a backup of the loose files.

The tool actually used the GPU and never really touched the CPU. But anyway, after it finished and I went to move the optimized textures to the data folder, Windows decided to hiccup. Half of them got moved, the other half vanished and a few got corrupted. So I just restored the backup and decided to start moving the big texture packs into ba2 archives instead. Not completely stutter-free now, but it's a vast improvement walking around downtown.

I give Beth a lot of crap about reusing this engine over and over and over, but the new ba2 archives are pretty awesome.

I got lot of textures aswell and i plan to put it for night. However as i can't see anyway to make the app skip for example face textures im glad then that im using mod organizer. I plan to let him work with only land texture mods and leave other like Wideos of wastelands which posses 8k textures for star drive in videos.
My game works just fine even without this app but i just can't stand look of downgraded textures so i assume i got this to fix the problem.

Back up those particular textures and restore them afterward.

I am having two problem with Elric and can't find any other info on the program.

First is I am trying to do the 2k option. However if any file is bigger than 4k Elric puts in the log file that the source is 4096 and the destination is 2048 in BC7 format however then file does not show up in the destination folder. Can't figure out any setting to fix this including the Force Below Threshold checkbox.

Second problem is if I have a lot of files then the log file does not give any info for width and height in the source or destination info. It only has the file name. This means I can' search the log file for files with width or height 4096 to find the files that were mysteriously skipped from the first problem.

Any documentation or help info available for Elric?

Hey, again, I optimized my loose textures. There was only about 1g worth. Would it be ok to try unpacking all the original texture ba2s and any other texture pack ba2s I have installed and trying to optimize those and then repack them??? Worth doing??

nope they should already be optimized. The vanilla textures are processed using the same tool to my knowledge.

If the BSA is a community mod (non-vanilla) it depends on the mod creator's method.

Thanks. This got rid of a bunch of hiccups and jerkiness. It helped with load time too.

I also took off Bethesda's HD pack since I couldn't tell any difference and the 50 gigs it was taking up was too much for what it did. Maybe that helped too.

Is this worth doing if I've already packed my loose textures into a ba2 file? I could unpack them, optimize them, and repack them, but only if it'll do anything...

If you experience slow loads or stuttering it is totally worth doing. But for textures it depends on how many textures you are optimising.

only about 5gs. But a lot of them also have meshes and materials.

yep, that'd be worth optimising :D

After converting the textures, they still wont load into an archive or be able to opened up in gimp. Get the same skip file message.

They are optimised into a better format that makes use of the direct support of modern GPUs. GIMP does not support the better format and kicks up a fuss.

This is expected and why I recommend doing a backup before optimisation.

Thanks man! It's actually pretty simple but I didn't know about it until I found this guide. Now I'm optimizing everything. A lot of people don't know but unoptimized textures (including things like missing mipmaps) can cause stutters, and freezes when moving in between areas especially if you have a normal HDD rather than an SSD. I solved that problem in the older games like Skyrim using 3rd party tools, but I couldn't find a 3rd party optimizer for FO4 and mistakenly thought it's because nobody's made one yet. Turns out nobody's making any because it's in the official tools heh.

    Anyway, endorsed! Thanks again!

"Browse" to the folder this guide is in and navigate to the folder "elrich_profiles".

    Browse with what, file explorer?

"Load Settings by clicking File then Load Settings...."

    I dont see these options.

    The instructions are vague.

In "convert" I choose 4k.esf or do I choose the texture file?

      1) Yes Windows Explorer
      2) The menu is there
      3) No conversion needed

Elrich.exe won't open regardless of how it is installed.
Using administrative privileges, opening it after re-installing creation kit/tools doesn't work.
Any workaround for this? There is little to no info in this program.

May I ask which version of Windows you are using?

Does the EXE process show in the task manager when you run it?

Maybe Windows SmartScreen is blocking it?

I'm using windows 10, and the process does show up for a few seconds in the task manager, but shortly after it crashes and a small windows problem reporting process starts. Compatibility options don't seem to work either and I have Smart screen disabled. I honestly have no idea what it could be causing the process to crash on startup.

I'd suggest that you check that the suitable Visual C++ Runtime is installed.

I can't suggest anything more really.

my character's face is all messed up after this. Replacing the optimized textures does nothing to help this problem. any advice?

Try going to textures then delete the character folder or just the face texture.
      Vanilla textures will then apply
