I'm going to try something, because if they are not on your team or with you it does says soandso is killed by Preston Garvey etc it happened to me when my base was attacked and my companions were at said base, but were not with me or following me. There is this mod that I'm using that might consider you and the companion separate, but they still follow you, but its a glitch in the mod or a certain way you have to dismiss them where you can no longer command them but they still follow. If all is well it might work because this mod works with companions not considered to be paired with the player. The mod is the OLD unlimited companions mod the one where you have to input forcerefintoalias Cait and other codes to allow more companions then there is Recruit NPC since most NPCs are not meant to follow the Player.
This mod is perfect and somehow immersive, I have mods installed that add new spawns and those spawns fight between each other. Before I installed this mod I didn’t know what happened in the distance, all I heard was shouting, bullets and explosions. Now I finally know who killed who and can adjust my movement towards or away from gunfire.
Do you plan to add sound effects to PC kills? Like double kill, triple kill, headshot ect?
And yes, settings in holotape are rather confusing, because I’m used that ON means that mod is active, not that you need to press it to active. But when you figure out that ON in setting menu means that mod is inactive and OFF means that mod is working, everything is ok.

Companion crime = Player crime.
I plan to use multi follower mod+warfare on my next play-through, this mod is an excellent pair if it can do that.
