About this mod

The underdogs at the Railroad have their own special version of the Stealth Boy, so why doesn't the technologically superior Institute? This adds one.

Stealth Boy MkII (Institute version)
PLEASE SEE KNOWN BUGS BEFORE COMMENTING ON THE STATS LISTED IN THE FIRST SCREENSHOT.

About:
Did you ever wonder to yourself why the underdogs at the Railroad have their own special version of the Stealth Boy, yet the technologically superior Institute doesn't? Well I did, so I created one. The Institute is far more technologically advanced than any of the other factions in the game (Save for perhaps the Zetans), and this Stealth Boy unit reflects that. This model is far more powerful than the base and Railroad versions, but does have a few draw backs (See "Stats/functionality") to keep it balanced. I know however that this will still not be enough for some people. If you feel that way, feel free to alter it to your liking in the Creation Kit.

The actual reason for me creating this was that in order to make the stealth mechanics more balanced for a FPS/RPG, Bethesda made the stealth effect from the Stealth Boy pretty weak for balance. My character however (In character) is an assassin that often does recon on her targets before striking later. While using either of the vanilla Stealth Boys, it wasn't possible to look around enemy camps without being detected, despite being extremely sneaky and not doing anything that would get someone's attention (Including wearing "quiet" clothing). As the leader of the Institute, a facility so advanced it could create artificial organic humans, I thought it'd be well in their ability to create a more advanced cloaking device for their leader had it been real life.

Stats/functionality:
Pros:
  • 5x the cloaking power of the standard Stealth Boy when sneaking and not moving (You are nearly undetectable)
  • 2x the cloaking power of the standard Stealth Boy when walking or sprinting
  • 3x the duration of the standard Stealth Boy (From 1 minute to 3)
  • Automatic night vision so you don't have to turn on your light to see and give your position away
  • A sneak attack damage buff is applied while in use
  • An Institute themed skin (Those robot lovers over at Railroad HQ don't get a custom skin for their model, but the Institute will!)
  • Reduced unit weight (No, it's not weightless.)

Cons:
  • You receive a pretty big Endurance debuff while using it  (-3 Endurance; I advise you try not to get caught...)
  • The crafting recipe requires some valuable and rare items to create one (See "How to obtain")

How to obtain:
You can craft them at a chemistry station (Under drugs) for the cost of: 1 Stealth Boy, 5 Circuitry, 3 Nuclear Material, and 1 Assaultron circuit board.
There's also 3 on the equipment shelf in the SRB wing of the Institute.

Notes:
This is completely standalone and does not alter the default Stealth Boys or the perks they use. The effects that this Stealth Boy use are custom.

Future additions/planned changes:
Possibly better balance.
Suggestions?

Requirements:
None!

Known conflicts:
None!

Known bugs:

The item info currently lists a "+25% critical damage" buff which is not actually there. This effect did exist at one time, but was replaced with the sneak damage buff instead. That being said, I'm not sure why the displayed text is wrong.

The item weight is also displayed as "0". It is not weightless, but the game doesn't like it when you give items weights under 0.5lb (And I think this is 0.3lb per unit).

Permissions:
You are free to do what you want with the mod and all included assets
providing it is for non-profit use (As in you can't charge people for it).

I'd also be grateful if you credited me for anything of mine you use, and
although not a requirement it would also be nice if you sent me a
message letting me know if you publish something using these assets
(Note that you do NOT have to wait for a response to use anything, I'd
just like to know so I can check it out myself!).
