I love this so much. Doing a re install of the game today, and after all this time I finally noticed who the second missing person is. Giggled so much my husband came to check on me. Thanks for this! :)
Let me know if you have any issues! It's been a long time since I checked up on this page, so if there are any issues I'd like to make sure they're taken care of.
I downloaded the new file you posted and deleted the old one from my NMM. I installed the new file and what I got in game was the OJ carton with the tape. Did you by chance upload the wrong file as the new one?
Just a note about this. In game the carton is fantastic with only one little issue. The tape that has WATER written on it goes over Todd's and Gabe's face.
Maybe you could have that tape get ripped off of the missing person panel, or go lower on the carton. People need to know that Todd is missing and maybe you will stumble across his body while you are exploring. I can see a modder now making a little cave where you find Todd either ghoulified or dead. A Todd Howard ghoul (like Arlen Glass) with a little quest would be a great complement to this mod and the game in general.
I got a great laugh when I saw this mod. You did a great job with it. I worked in the carton manufacturing industry for decades so it was nice to see the missing children panels again. Here are a few tidbits of information about cartons.
1 - The missing children panels were very big in the late 70's to early 80's. One of the issues we had with the panels was that every now and then you would print thousands (100,000 or more) of cartons for an order and a few times before the cartons were shipped the poor child was found murdered. The dairy would not want to use these cartons in the field and they would have to eat the cost of the cartons. This only happened rarely but did create some problems. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why this practice disappeared.
2 - The carton itself is right on except for one thing. The bottom of this type of carton would not have the 6 color registration marks and UPC on the bottom. This type of carton in your mod was printed with a Flexographic process. Flexo was a much cruder and faster (cheaper) way to print gable top cartons. They had at the most 4 colors and usually just 2. The flexo printers for this size carton was also just "2 stream" so the printing units would butt up against each other and the cartons were printed with the bottoms of the cartons touching. The printing process needed this extra space that the bottom of the cartons gave them so on a 2 stream flexo press you did not have bottom printing. Also those registration marks are used in "Offset" printing. Offset printing is much more "high end" (expensive) so you only would see offset cartons for very high end high priced products like maybe Orange Juice.
3 - Outstanding little touch with the International Paper logo inside the gable. They were the competition as I worked for Champion Paper but during this time these were the 2 major players in the paperboard carton world. Westvaco was a another printer but they were smaller on a national level.
4 - Speaking about the company logo, it would only be on one side of the gable. The other side would have "To Open" or "Open Here" label with arrows pointing to the sides that you pull apart to produce the pouring spout. You have these on the outside of the carton which is correct, but this would also be on the inside gable too. This was actually an important feature in the carton business and special coating processes were used to make the carton open easier. This was only applied to one side so the other side would have a better seal and less chance of a "leaker".
Good luck with the mod and again it was nice to see another little mod that adds a little something to game experience.
@Kodiak that's awesome history there, learn something new every day. Thanks! x
@DOPR5 - This is very cool.
I think a Pipboy, Grognak the Barbarian or Silver Shroud version of this would be awesome.
Maybe you could put an ironic old advert on it about Vaults. Like "Sign up today!" sort of thing. EDIT: I found a vault pic and added to show you what I mean.
@Kodiak412 That is some fantastic information! I'll be doing a 1.3 version to reflect the changes you suggested. I couldn't find a decent picture of the bottom of a vintage carton, so I used a stock one I found online thinking that it wouldn't make much difference. I'll do some more searching, but if I can't find one that fits, I'll just smudge away the reg marks and UPC.
I was paranoid about making sure the "Open" arrows pointed the right direction, and I was pleased when they did so on my first attempt. For the gables markings though, I simply mirrored the Int. Paper logo from one panel to the other, but it shouldn't be hard to get an "Open Here" panel to insert.
On those old flexo cartons there was no printing on bottom so it is no surprise that you could not find any good pictures. There just wasn't anything to photograph. On the side that is opposite the missing children panel when the carton is formed and filled, is where the inside gable would also have Open Here and arrows pointing toward the outside of the gable flaps. Those are the flaps you would pull apart to make the spout. This is what you would drink out of when you took the carton out of the fridge, only to have your mom catch you and yell at you.
Good luck with this and great work on this little tidbit mod that helps make FO4 a little nicer place.
EDIT: Just to touch on what Amelli said. Now if only you could get a picture of Todd Howard, turn in into a blocky style black and white, and swap out one of the missing children for a missing Todd Howard, now that would be File Of The Month.
Great job! I already was using a non-vanilla texture replacer but this one is much better. Lore friendly or not the quality is very high. Personal preferences aside, I say the more variety the better. Especially if its a quality mod. Endorsed ofc and I look forward to more of your work.

Also nice job with that "Open" in the gable, you nailed this carton!
Missing Todd Howard on a Dirty Water Carton. It doesn't get better than this.
