This mod was made with G.E.C.K. As for wanting ash piles back for alien weapons or plasma ect... just open G.E.C.K., click the details button on Disable Ash and Goo Piles.esp then select the script for the weapons your want the ash piles back for and press Delete (on your keyboard), that will set it to ignore and the scripts changes will not load. Simply press Delete again to un-ignore it.
Although the vaporizing effect starts out great, it suddenly, and quite abruptly becomes an instantaneous pile of glowing ash .... as if the animation effect was only half done.
This mod maintains the glow of the laser kill, but spares us the low-budget-style jerkiness of the Vanilla version.
Ss it possible to make them despawn after a while like the corpses do. It's kinda silly that bethesda overlooked this since it makes you save files bigger and more glitchy.
Just curious, was this mod made before or after using the GECK? I am trying to just use mods made using the GECK to make sure no random oddities and compatibility issue crop up now they we have proper mod tools and not Frankensteined esps.
Ha, this mod is defaintely not for me because I love the disintergration and melting effects! I'm curious, do you not like them because you think they are silly, or because the ash piles are harder to find than bodies when looting? It's true ash piles can be slightly tricky sometimes. Goo piles are easy though.
I agree with wirecutter that it might be nice to have a mod that just removes laser ash piles but not goo piles. Perhaps keep the ash piles for the alien blaster too. My reasoning is that in the arlier games on the alien blaster turned people to ash, and plasma weapons turned people to goo, but laser weapons sliced people in half. So getting rid of laser ash piles might make the game "more canon" and in keeping with the earlier Fallouts.
In the earlier Fallout games the plasma goo effect was fantastic. The clothing and flesh meled off a fraction of a second before the skeleton melted, leaving just a half-melted skull and pieces of armour in the puddle. That kind of thing is easy in a sprite/voxel/2D graphics game but nearly impossible in a 3D graphics game, and I was worried that Betheseda might just have plasma vaporising people or reducing them to ash like the laser weapons. So it was fantastic the first time I saw a plasma weapon melt someone into goo in Fallout 3 - it wasn't gory like the original, but it was still impressive and showed they had tried their best.
What would be great is if there was a mod that brought back the old laser effect from Fallout 1 & 2 - that sliced people's torsos in half!
I guess that Bethesda decided that wasn't special enough, since in Fallout 3 regular bullets can take limbs and heads off. It would be great if the ash effect for lasers was removed and instead an extra dismemberment option was added, which cut the torso in half, and which could only occur from a torso shot with a laser.
Alternatively, perhaps the bloody mess "torso explosion". I've never tried bloody mess so I've never seen it, but apparently as well as full dismemberment (all limbs falling off, which looks very silly from what I've seen of youtube videos) there's also a chance of a torso explosion. That sounds like a perfect alternative to the old laser slice, or the ash pile.

Therefore, I like it ...
Much more convincing this way.
Thx

Now to get rid of the VATS audio for the energy weapons :
EDIT: After loading this mod and playing for a bit I noticed that laser criticals still make that horrible (horrible in VATS anyway) noise ">
