About this mod

Fixes the semi-implemented political support system in 'A Paragon of Her Kind'. Players can now obtain Endrin's Mace or the Aeducan Mace, or no reward at all, as originally intended. Fixes some bugs in the Assembly Speaker's dialogue and unresolved quests.

Fixed Political Support in 'A Paragon of Her Kind'

Update 02 Jul 2017: Qwinn has released an Ultimate Fixpack, which apparently supersedes this mod (and so much more -- the aim is to include every quest, item and dialogue fix).  You'll have to forgive me if I remain a little attached to this mod (it still works fine!), but I'd highly recommend you check out his work.  I haven't tested it myself, and as of writing it's still in beta.

Update 24 Nov 2016: Version 2 is out.  Incorporates bugfixes from Qwinn's Fixpack (mostly quests that didn't resolve properly).  Also fixed a mistake on my part and added a new support boost for Dwarf Nobles.  See below for further details.

Overview
The quest line 'A Paragon of Her Kind' keeps track of your support for Bhelen and Harrowmont.  For instance, if you kill Jarvia at Bhelen's request, you receive 3 'points' to your support for Bhelen.  This system is referred to when:

  • Determining your final reward
  • The Speaker refers to the current political climate
  • Determining the number of opponents you face in the Assembly Room fight

This mod overhauls the point system to be (hopefully) bug-free, symmetric and internally consistent.  Endrin's and Aeducan Maces are now obtainable, even if you act as a double agent.  (The Aeducan Mace you get is now Silverite, consistent with Endrin's Mace).

Thanks to Sophia on the Dragon Age Wiki for figuring out how a lot of this stuff was meant to work.

Installation
Extract to the usual override folder (Documents\Bioware\Dragon Age\packages\core\override).  Remember to check for overlap with other mods.  To uninstall, delete the folder "paragon_fix".

Alternative Installation
For a simpler version, delete files in paragon_fix, keeping only the following:

  • orz260_baizyl.dlg/dlb
  • orz260_gwiddon.dlg/dlb
  • orz320_bhelen.dlg/dlb
  • orz330_harrowmont.dlg/dlb
  • orz340_steward.dlg/dlb
  • orzpt_wfbhelen.ncs/nss
  • orzpt_wfharrow_t2.ncs/nss
  • orzpt_wfharrow.ncs/nss
  • orzpt_wfharrow_t2.ncs/nss

This version will only contain basic bugfixes (based on developer comments in the toolset).  Aeducan Mace is still crap and you have to play things perfectly to get Endrin's Mace (double agents can't get either).  You also still won't get the intended +1 Harrowmont support from double-crossing Bhelen.

Compatibility
Version 2 is compatible with Qwinn's Fixpack.  Other will probably be incompatible with any other mod with carrying the same files.

(Improved Atmosphere: I think they've made a pretty minor fix to orz520_lorddace.dlg, so I'd suggest keeping my file, but it's up to you.  Also, you might end up with two Endrin's Maces if you have 2.3 Placeables installed.)

Detailed Changes

Version 2 (24 Nov 2016)
Now compatible with Qwinn's Fixpack v2.  The following bugfixes have been incorporated:
  • "A Paragon of her Kind", subquests "Vartag Gavorn" and "Dulin Forender": If you initially talk to Dulin and/or Vartag but end the conversations before accepting either of their first quests, then talk to the Steward and ask what you can do to help break the stalemate, you would get permanent quest markers for these two quests stuck over Dulin and/or Vartag (whichever you'd spoken to) for the rest of the game.
  • "A Paragon of her Kind", subquest "A Lord's Favor: The Second Task": If you were publicly working for Harrowmont but planted the papers in Jarvia's chest for Bhelen, when you reported to Harrowmont that you had killed Jarvia, a journal entry for this quest would remain stuck open and you'd lose out on the rather hefty experience reward for dealing with her.
Implemented a few additional support changes
  • Dwarf Nobles get +5 Harrowmont if they crown Harrowmont and present proof of Bhelen's fratricide during the assembly (plot flag was there, but script missing).
  • You get no reward if you are not a medium (>=5) support with the king (as seems to have been originally intended).  This only occurs if you aren't a double agent, but change your mind at the very last minute.

Version 1
  • You get a mace if you are at high (>=8) support with the king.  This is now possible for Harrowmont (see bugfixes below), easier for Bhelen and possible (but harder) for double agents.
  • The Speaker's comments have been ordered more sensibly, with some new lines possible.  They also fit the story better (e.g. he won't talk about the proving once you've killed Jarvia).
  • +1 Harrowmont for helping Baizyl, as was intended.
  • +1 Harrowmont for helping Gwiddon, as was intended.
  • +3 Harrowmont for killing Jarvia on his behalf (was incorrectly +3 Bhelen)
  • +5 Harrowmont for completing Shifting Allegiances (formerly +1).  I increased this so that double agents weren't locked out of a weapon (and the Speaker's comments make more sense now).
  • +5 Bhelen for completing 'Betrayal from Within' (formerly 0), for similar reasons.
  • When you talk to Lord Dace, you will get +0 Bhelen (if you mention Vartag Gavorn), +1 Bhelen or +2 Bhelen (persuasion check).  This was formerly +1, +1/+2 and +3 respectively and was reduced to be symmetric with Baizyl/Gwiddon, who can also be talked to before committing to a candidate.
  • Aeducan Mace is now Silverite. (The version Dwarf Commoners get from Duncan is unchanged.)
