Q. I can't locate the right path where to paste the Engine.ini A. Just press Win + R and copy/paste the following path in the box it will appear if you have Xbox / Game Pass version:
%localappdata%\Alabama\Saved\Config\WinGDK
or this one if you have Steam/GOG/Other versions:
%localappdata%\Alabama\Saved\Config\Windows
then hit enter and you will end up in the correct folder where to put the Engine.ini
Q. When I launch the game the modded Engine.ini is automatically deleted or reverted to default one? A. Right-Click on my Engine.ini -> Properties -> make sure the "Read-Only" box is selected -> Apply/OK It's important. If the file keeps getting deleted or reverted, un-tick the "Read-only" box -> Apply -> re-tick it -> Apply/OK Q. When I right click on Engine.ini Properties I have a security warning stating "This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer"? A. That's just a warning that tells you the file comes from another PC (mine). It will still work without issues.
Q. My CPU usage is skyrocketing to 100% after the mod A. This is initial shader compilation which may continue in-game even after the initial precompilation loading screen. Wait 4-5 minutes at max to let the game finish it and CPU usage / performance will return normal.
Q. I have noticeable ghosting A. To improve ghosting I highly recommend updating the game's DLSS .dlls to latest DLSS4 version (easiest method: DLSS Swapper) and force the "Latest" DLSS preset via NVIDIA Profile Inspector or NVIDIA App. It will make an huge difference for the better. Also always use the latest version of the mod.
Q. I have the same or worse performance after the mod A. For super high-end PCs the performance difference may be small but you should still notice reduced stuttering, more consistent 1% lows, lower input latency and better visual clarity. For mid and low-end PCs the fps difference may be much bigger on top of all that. If for some specific PC configs you end up with worse performance try deleting shaders cache including the files which end with "cache" located in the "Saved" folder from the above path and open the game again. If you still have worse performance just delete my Engine.ini and on next boot the game will recreate its default one. You don't need to verify the game files or reinstall it to restore it to what it was before the mod.
Q. Will this mod downgrade visuals/graphics? A. No :) "Lossless" means this mod was created with the goal to optimize everything I could in Unreal Engine without sacrificing visuals and/or altering your in-game graphics' choices (except for Chromatic Aberration and Film Grain removal which you can still revert back by changing their described lines within the Engine.ini itself) With improvements to AA, Sharpening, DLSS/FSR/XeSS you should actually have even better visuals after the mod.
Q. Can I use it together with Oblivion Optimiser, Oblivion Ultra+, Oblivion "Uber-Tweaks" or whatever? A. No. Don't mix my Engine.ini with other mods which will do their own optimization tweaks to the engine or they may conflict with each other. You can try each of them separately and choose the one which performs the best for you and only use that exclusively. You can still install any other "non-optimization" mods.
Q. Will this Engine.ini disable Achievements? A. Straight and simple: no. :)
Q. Will this Engine.ini work/load also with future game patches? A. Yes. Just be sure the file is set to "Read-only"
Q. The game crashes when opening it and/or during gameplay after a while A. Make sure your PC is actually stable under sustained load (e.g. you are not using an excessive overclock/undervolt). You can test it using OCCT (launch a 1 hour "CPU+RAM" test, followed by another 1 hour "3D Adaptive" test. If you have even a single error, you need to fix your PC stability first) Another solution if you use Vortex is to open it, go to the game section -> Load Order and click the last button ⛔ on the top bar ("Reset Plugins File") If even doing the above you still crash, try lowering PoolSizeVRAMPercentage=60 (both in [TextureStreaming] and [ConsoleVariables] sections of the .ini), then remember to set the .ini to Read-only again.
Q. Where do I see a full Changelog for all the updates done to the mod so far? A. Just go to the mod Description page and click the "Changelogs" button.
I tried using frame gen before using this mod and decided to disable it again because input lag was too crazy for my taste. I was forced to use fsr on performance mode and had barely 60 fps while playing on 1440p resolution now with this mod and frame gen enabled (nvidia reflex enabled as well) I get 80-100 fps while input lag from frame gen barely noticeable on top of that Im now also able to run quality mode on fsr instead of performance mode. ty for sharing this my friend, kudos to you :)
Absolutely amazing! Was going between 40-60 fps depending on the area before applying your ini file. Now hitting 60 fps in more demanding areas and up to 80 fps in less demanding areas. A must have and thank you for sharing!
Bro you're a f*#@ing wizard. I'm running on potato and now the FPS is like stable 60 in almost every area. I still encounter some stuttering when I fight in populated places but it's a huge improvement.
I haven't touched the graphics settings since I used your engine.ini but are there any settings I can use to try and improve performance without hurting the visuals much?
I'm running a 4080 GPU, i7 13700k CPU, 32GB of DDR5 6000Mhz RAM, and while the game was somewhat playable before this mod, there were a lot of stutters and generally just a janky feel when playing. After this mod everything feels fantastic. Running ultra settings with no issue now.
Thanks for your effort on this! It's a wonder how developers can't figure this out on their own though...
It stands for variable refresh rate windows display settings also refer to it as dynamic refresh rate. You must have a monitor that has VRR to use the VRR version.
I've tested your Engine Tweak as well as both .pak Mods from the Mod "Optimized Tweaks AVD" in a Benchmark. In this Benchmark i ran through Paradis with maximal Details in UHD/4K with DLSS UP. I used DLSS UP to ensure both CPU and GPU will have an impact on performance. Its always around 70% GPU Bound. So, we can measure an impact on performance unlike if your Mod affect GPU or CPU.
My System is a Ryzen 7 9800X3D with manual RAM OC and a RTX4090. I used CapFrameX for measurement of P0.2, P1 and Avg FPS.
The Results are as following: Game Default: 54.5 P0.2, 67 P1, 102 Avg OT AVD Base Mod: 58.8 P0.2, 70.8 P1, 100.7 Avg OT AVD Exp Mod: 47.8 P0.2, 55.8 P1, 84.7 Avg Your Ultimate Engine Tweaks: 60.3 P0.2, 71.4 P1, 106.6 Avg
