Hey, I don't really know where else to ask and since you seems to know how to edit the xml properly... How the hell can I increase the force that melee hits applies at impacting zombies? I would like to do some "thor" weapons (like a fus ro dah but with melee weapons) and I can't find how to do it (and google doesn't feel like helping me). Anyways great mod for easy tweaking.
The mod works by editing weapon parameters inside the items.xml file. This means that weapons will get edited no matter the game version (if they exist and have the same name). What you have to do is simply update the game (this should replace your items.xml with Alpha 16 vanilla version) and rerun the patcher. Pay attention to the text that appears. Patcher should warn you if some items did not get patched.
If you encounter problems, tell me and I'll look into it.
There is a solution mentioned in the instructions. Before using the patcher you have to set path to the Config folder inside the 7 Days To Die folder by editing the 7D2D_Path.txt file. This file is located right where you unzipped the patcher.
So find out the path to the Config folder and paste it in the first line of 7D2D_Path.txt (replace or correct the default path that is already there). If you don't know how to copy paths, check this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSOFdIOQ_IU
When you've got the correct path, run the patcher again and it will read it from 7D2D_Path.txt and it should work.
Thank you very much for trying to help. I already did everything to the letter, but it does not work. Change the route and follow the steps; but it does not work. anyway thank you very much. I think the program has to be debugged in that respect.
It is in my interest to squash bugs in the patcher. But to do that I would need to know exactly what the patcher outputs. It should tell you what's the problem. You could try enabling debug logs to display additional information and then send me the output.
Debug logs can be enabled by writing "debug" (without quotes) in line number 2 of file 7D2D_Path.txt (and path to your Config folder is of course in line number 1). When you run the program again, message should appear that debug logs are enabled. I know it's weird, but it is the most simple and uncomplicated way.
Just to mention this: I use two different paths (one on Linux and one on Windows) to patch my game files. Both are different from the default one and the patcher works flawlessly in both cases. My example is "N:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\7 Days To Die\Data\Config" if that helps in any way.
It works on Windows 10 on my machine. The only reason I can think of is that you don't have .NET framework installed (used to run C#, Visual Basic ...). You could try to get one of these:
I used Mono to compile the program. I'll also upload a patched items.xml for current game/patch version in case you can't get it working. Look for it under optional files.
Thanks for trying it out! I'm very happy to hear you like it so much (looks like you had similar experience with the game as I did). If you have any suggestions do post them. Also please let me know if you had any difficulties using the patcher.
You might also want to stay tuned in for updates. I'm thinking about updating the patcher interface to display more useful information. And to warn the user if everything did not get patched.
