Morrowind Modding Madness is Back!

  • Comment
Last month we spoke to darkelfguy about his Morrowind Mod competitions. Now, Morrowind Modding Madness is back for a 3rd season!

Four weeks, two themes, two mods, only one team of modders will rise up to claim the throne as the ultimate modding champions of 2018! Madness has returned for the third year in a row, our Lord Sheogorath still craves to be sated, and only an entire month dedicated to intense insanity driven challenges can possibly quench his unending thirst! To satisfy our Lord Sheogorath, Morrowind Modding Madness has been proclaimed anew, starting October 1st and going through to October 31st where modders form teams, compete and vanquish challenges, and rise through the ranks to become the ultimate modding champions of 2018 with all the sweet prizes that entails!

Once again modders will be called upon to face their fellow modders in mod on mod, gladiatorial creativity, the likes of which can only be driven by that Lord of Madness himself!

With that out of the way, let's introduce the 2018 Morrowind Modding Madness competition, a team-based competition in the vein of our annual Morrowind Modathons, but with a twist where modders have to form teams and face bi-weekly modding challenges by coming up with, designing, and releasing an entire mod in only two week's time to make it to the top by Halloween (October 31st)!

Are you ready to compete in the most gruelling endurance-challenging competition in the community? Are you ready to surrender your sanity and embrace the madness? Then join up with your fellow modders, build a team, and register for Morrowind Modding Madness today! And if you need help finding teammates, stop by the Morrowind Modding Community Discord or the Morrowind Modding Madness Discord and let them know you're looking for a team!

I wonder why this is done in Morrowind, with so other more modern games which support modding (even Skyrim would be a better alternative).

I'm bored already, making effort for a dead game is not worth it.

Why bother writing a comment in a page if you are already bored and not intrested.. Make your own contest with Skyrim if you want to see one.

Dead game? The Morrowind Modding Community is extremely active, with nearly 600 new mod releases so far this year by literally hundreds of modders. We're more active with more mod releases so far in 2018 than either the Oblivion or Fallout 3 modding communities, and this year's Modathon Modding Competition, held in May, had 89 submissions by over 42 different modders. That's more participating mods and more participating modders than any other modding competition in Elder Scrolls modding history.

As far as number of new mods and number of active mod authors go, we're one of the most active games on the Nexus. Dead, I think not. Already we have 24 modders, representing 7 teams, registered for this year's Morrowind Modding Madness. The reason why this is done with Morrowind is because our community is dedicated, active, and extremely enthusiastic about the game we love, and any competition we host is pretty much guaranteed to get dozens of modders on board.

Why this isn't done for the newer games, I can't say. The Skyrim Modding Community did try and host a series of competitions in 2015 on Reddit, but it fizzled out, and as far as I know, no one has tried since. If you really want to see a modding competition for Skyrim, you can always try to host one yourself, or request someone from the Skyrim Modding Community to do one. Personally, I would like to see more modding competitions out there, it's a great way to encourage modders and get people involved in the modding process, and hopefully someone will take the time to host more competitions for the other modding communities out there. But that won't be me, Morrowind is my home, and I have no interest in the later Elder Scrolls games.

Then leave. This is for people who are actually interested in Morrowind modding. What's the point of this post?
