"Beta 15 is very likely the last major gameplay update for Long War. Remaining patches will fix bugs and make some balancing adjustments, but we do not plan to add any new major features going forward but instead work toward refining the mod for a final release." - JohnnyLump, Chief Designer and Programmer of Long War.
ENL LW final should work with every new patch released for the Long War mod from now on.
My special thanks go to everyone who downloaded and used the lists -- EU, EW and LW players alike.
Mixed names (Taiwan/China; Czech Rep./Slovakia) are there mainly because of space limitations as soldiers from different countries will be pulling names from the same arrays. I appreciate the feedback though, and I am happy to see that many people have been enjoying and using this. Regarding accents and other mistakes, I trust we all understand someone native from a certain country would be the best judge on getting all the names right. I still hoped to get the best results possible from such a diverse list of nationalities.
Great work, but as Czech myself, I can tell that you have mixed up Czech and Slovak names together. And have a few minor mistakes in accents. I suppose only native speaker can see those details.
Thanks for the name expansion list Uzifeline, God knows many of us could really use this. Just one minor drawback for me though, your Chinese surnames are spelt in Taiwanese style, i.e. Chow (TW) = Zhou (CN), Ko (TW) = Guo (CN), Tso (TW) = Zuo/Zhuo (CN). Not sure about the last one though. I think I'll look over the list after download and give a proper feedback afterwards. Cheers.
Hey thanks for making this. It's pretty awesome. This community isn't as large as some of the other modding communities but 'little guys' like you really help it out, Uzifeline. Thanks again for your work!
Hey, I make javascript based name generators myself and was wondering if there was a relatively easy way to do something similar to what you did and add my name generators into the game. I wouldn't be publishing it as a mod, it would just be for personal use. Is there a specific file directory for the names that I could edit without too much risk?
To add your custom name list all you have to do is edit the DefaultNameList.ini. It is a simple task that you can do with Notepad or Notepad++ (recommended), and the only risk is generating wrong names.
Although I have one slight nationalistic issue, since Brazil is not a hispanic country, there are considerable name variations. Is there a way I could edit that myself, or does the vanilla game lump Latin America as a homogeneous group as well?
As far as I can tell from the original config, file all the Latin American names are contained within the same array type "Mx".
It is of course not a huge issue, many of the names are indeed the same.
Firaxis clumped Argentina, Mexico and Brazil together in one single list (Hispanic Mx array), as you have already noticed.
Norwegians/Swedes (Nw), South Africans/Nigerians (Af) and Russians/Ukrainians (Rs) suffer the same problem.
I decided not to add Brazilian names (vanilla list) to prevent Argentinian and Mexican troops being named after Portuguese genealogy. This leaves Brazilian soldiers with Hispanic names, but at least it doesn't impair the other 2 nationalities.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to add new arrays to handle all the different nationalities in-game. However, Long War programmers managed to re-use the existing arrays and reassign them to specific nationalities. For this reason the LW version of the ENL is more accurate than vanilla's.
That can only be done through hex editing. If you feel like trying and making those changes yourself (splitting the Mx array and separating Hispanic and Brazilian names would be the easiest way), I suggest you contact johnnylump (LW dev) here on Nexus.
So the Long War beta14d hotfix came out and they have this-
Distinct name lists for Swedes, Canadians (French and Anglo), Australians, Spanish, Ukrainians, Nigerians and South Africans (thanks to freshman LW contributor Part Time Commie). Note: If you use non-LW custom name lists, you will have to reformat them in accordance with new file standards, which are explained in the file DefaultNameList.ini
What is this ?! A list that has names that I actually heard of and are not out of my grandmas generation?! SORCERY! BURN THE WITCH!
Joking aside, I could hug you for this mod. Not only does it (unless my luck give me 50 Adeltraude again) deal with there being mostly "old" names, at least for germans, but also balances the amount of names. I swear... if I see even ONE more Dieter Müller, Khorne himself will piss his pants... So, yeah good job one a nice mod, even though it probably won't get much attention.

Good luck and have fun, commanders.

Anyway thanks again!

This sounds top notch, Uzifeline. I'm looking forward to what your team has built.

I assume your namelist won't work for now?
EDIT: LW B14d version will not be released due to a bug with Swedes not getting surnames.
EDIT 2: The compatible version with LW B14e has been uploaded. Swedish names should be working as intended.
