Description:
This mod seeks to create better balance for the common Water item, which can be looted / purchased just about anywhere in the game and is among the most common items available for use in inventory. However, the amount of vitality that it restores is actually lower than many items in the game, so this mod increases the values to make it more useful.

Overview
Water is the most precious resource that is required to sustain all life. In The Witcher 3, the common water item is very underpowered relative to other food types. This mod increases the amount of vitality that is restored by using it. The mod is available in two variants (only install ONE of the variants):

  • Water of Life variant 1 ("Sustenance") -- This variant changes the item from WellHydratedEffect_Level2 to WellHydratedEffect_Level3. This preserves the effects that were established in the next-gen edition of the game, such that water will continue to restore 15 vitality points per second, but it will do so for 30 seconds instead of 20 for a total of 450 points restored compared to 300 points in vanilla.
  • Water of Life variant 2 ("Rejuvenation") -- When the next-gen version of The Witcher 3 was released, the food system was overhauled with the inclusion of the FCR mod. This resulted in the value of food items being greatly reduced per second in exchange for extending the time that the items regenerate health. This "soulslike" approach is a departure from the classic edition of the game. For example, WellFedEffect_Level1 in classic restores 50 points in 5 seconds (total of 250 points); in next-gen it was changed to 10 points over 30 seconds (total of 300 points). Whereas the total number of points was increased, so too was the time it takes to receive the benefits of those points. In other words, this slows down the restoration by 80% compared to the classic version of the game. For players who use the Gourmet skill, extending the time in which food restores vitality provides no benefit because the skill already increases the time to 20 minutes; all it does is reduce the points from 50 to 10 over that duration. This variant of the mod restores the WellFedEffect values from the classic version of the game, and it sets the Water item to WellFedEffect_Level3 to take advantage of these adjusted values.
In the "Rejuvenation" variant, the values that were restored to the classic edition of the game are as follows:
  • WellFedEffect_Level1: changed from 10 points per second for 30 seconds to 50 points per second for 5 seconds.
  • WellFedEffect_Level2: changed from 10 points per second for 60 seconds to 50 points per second for 10 seconds.
  • WellFedEffect_Level3: changed from 15 points per second for 60 seconds to 80 points per second for 10 seconds.
  • WellHydratedEffect levels 1, 2, and 3 are unchanged in this mod because next-gen did not alter the balance from classic.

Both variants of the mod include a new and unique icon for the common water item. Note: if you do not want to use the new icon and would rather continue to use the vanilla icon, simply delete the texture.cache file from the mod folder.

Installation & Compatibility
This mod was only tested on version 4.04 of the game. Unknown if it is compatible with older editions of the game, and I will not support versions other than the current version (4.04).

Installation Instructions:
  • Place the mod inside the Mods folder, typically found at [Your Drive Location]\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt GOTY\Mods
  • Use Script Merger to merge this with other xmls. This should merge smoothly with most other mods unless the other mod alters the exact same fields that are edited by this mod.
