New appearances for a whole bunch of npcs

This is and extension and next-gen version of my previous dynamic outfits for triss and dynamic outfits for sorceresses mods. This time, I have added appearances for every character that I felt should have multiple outfits for different circumstances they find themselves in.

Next-gen only.

Installation

  • Unzip the downloaded main file in your game directory.
  • Make sure both files that have landed in your mods folder have higher priority than any other character-related mods. (so make sure the names of other character-related mods are lower when sorted alphabetically)

Keep in mind:
  • There are two new files in your mods folder and two new files your dlc folder - make sure you got all four installed
  • You should have dlc outfits for Ciri, Triss and Yen installed but turned off in game settings
  • You should have Ciri - Alternative look - DLC installed but turned off in the game settings
  • You should have HoS and BaW
  • This mod is intended to work along a number of other mods, as listed below
  • If you use Multi Companion Mod, you can download the optional compatibility file (more info under "Files in the mod" header)

Intended to work with other mods

There is already a ton of wonderful character outfits made by other creators, and my mod is set up to work along some of them.
It does not contain any assets form other creators on its own.
In order to get the appearances to look the same way as in the included pictures, you need to install all the mods listed below. The first set (one mod) is required, and the second set is strongly recommended to get full range of outfits. The third set (hidden as spoiler) is entirely optional, those are just various awesome mods I use

1. Required mod

Ciri - Alternative look - DLC (it must be turned off in the settings; you don't need the BASE mod that's listed as required there)

2. Strongly recommended mods - get those (or similar) mods to have full range of outfits - without them Yen, Ciri and Hjalmar will wear their vanilla outfits in multiple appearances.

Yennefer's lore friendly wardrobe - reworked - (get one torso and one legs mod. I'm using Blanchefleur torso and black Layered skirt)
Off the shoulder gown for Yennefer
New moon Armor for Ciri
Alternative Outfit and Appearance for Ciri (get the alternative outfit, not alternative appearance file)
Alternative Outfit for Hjalmar

3. Other appearance mods - they are not required at all, this are just all the other appearance mods I use in the photos:

Elegant Triss - Dress Edition
Triss - Sorceress in Hiding - outfit reworked
Book Yennefer's wild and curly hair - Reworked - (get the bun and one other hair)

Ciri DLC outfit with corset and Yen DLC outfit with pants (ciri dlc outfit remodelled and the dlc outfit fix and recolours listed in that mod's description)
Philippa Eilhart New Hair and Outfit (this will affect Margarita and not Luiza or Phil)
Enhanced Yennefer (Enhanced Yen DLC Outfit )
Elegant Keira (visible only with Multi Companion Mod Enhanced)
Elegant Philippa (visible only with Multi Companion Mod Enhanced)

NPC Overhaul (Characters Redone) (Morvran Voorhis only)
Static outfits for Triss (Hair recolour)

How does it work and what other mods might be compatible

You can also try using other mods instead of the ones above, but only those are tested and guaranteed to be compatible.

You could replace some of the mods listed above by other mods,  and use mods that change textures and meshes of characters affected by this mod, but not everything will be compatible. More details on that in the spoiler section below, but installing whatever mod you are interested in and testing it in game is the best way to find out.

All face and eyes mods should be compatible, as well as most hair mods. Ciri and Priscilla hair are exception to this, and they cannot be changed by other mods.

I am leveraging the fact that there are many ways to create an appearance mod, and different creators use different methods for their mods.

I'll use Ciri as an example here, since I actually use four methods for her outfits (the file names I use here are just examples, in the mod they are a bit different).

  • X20T3rMiN4t0R's "Ciri - Alternative Look" outfit was added as dlc. It does not overwrite any existing files, and my mod just points to the new ciri_body_01.w2ent file that he created. That's why it would be invisible if you don't have that mod installed
  • Karpfenfrosch's "Alternative Outfit for Ciri" modifies the vanilla ciri_body_02.w2ent file, to point to custom w2mesh files he created - my mod points to vanilla ciri_body_02.w2ent file. It would be vanilla if you don't install K's mod.
  • Bububull's "New Moon Armor" overwrites the w2mesh file itself. Since the vanilla ciri_body_02.w2ent  no longer points to vanilla w2mesh because of [2], I have created a dlc file ciri_body_03.w2ent that points to vanilla w2mesh. It would also look vanilla without B's mod.
  • My mod actually changes the npc file ciri.w2ent that contains list of appearances and body part files (like ciri_body_01.w2ent) used for each appearance. This is where I assign ciri_body_01, 02 and 03 to different appearances.

Another trick I used a bunch of times was to create new dlc assets (with method [1]) that are exact copies of vanilla assets. That way I can have [2] and [3] changing the ciri vanilla out, but I have a dlc file ciri_body_04.w2ent that looks like vanilla that I can still use.
So, what other character appearances mods might work?

  • Dlc mods [1] will not appear if turned off, and overwrite the vanilla appearances if turned on (so ciri and ciri_winter which were already in game will be changed, while appearances I added like ciri_baron, ciri_novi will be affectd by my mod only).  Dlc mods that affect a few select appearances only (Teji's Immersive Torture is the only one I know of) could work well here.
  • You can replace mods that work by [2] and [3] methods by other mods of your choosing, as long as you switch to mods that work in the same way (Just installing and testing if it works is probably the easiest way to check that). Make sure that [2] has higher priority than [3]
  • Mods that use method [4 ] will not work at all.

Files in the mod

Main file

The zipped file contains mods and dlc folder, that should be merged with you mods and dlc folders in main WItcher 3 directory. (They don't overwrite anything existing there)

There are two files that should land in the dlc folder: dlc_dynamic_everyone and dlc_dynamic_everyone_assets
I have split the mod into two because I had too many new assets and was getting lost in all of those. The split is very arbitrary. Both dlc files contain various new outfit elements and hairs I added to the mod.

There are also two files that should land in the mods folder: mod_dynamic_everyone and mod_dynamic_everyone_base
I have split them in order to limit the amount of assets I was working with as well, but the split is not so arbitrary here.

  • The dynamic_everyone_base mod sets up the changing of appearances and contains community files and scene and phase files. It should not conflict with many mods.
  • The dynamic_everyone mod contains characters w2ent files that define how many appearances there are and how they look. It may conflict with many mods that modify characters. You need to give my mod higher priority.

You need all those files installed for the mod to work properly.

Optional file

The Multi Companion Mod Enhanced compatibility file makes the two mods work more smoothly together.

Three main things it does:
  • makes MCME load Priscilla from her quest file, not character file, which prevents missing body parts
  • makes Yen, Triss and Ciri wear their Toussaint appearances (only ciri_witcher version)
  • makes a few other characters wear new unique appearances

It was created for version 4.0.3 of MCME_NextGen and will probably not work with other versions. It will also not work for CorvoBianco_NPC_Relocation versions, but you can make the compatibility edits manually:

open the MultiCompanionModNPCManager.ws file (modSpawnCompanions\content\scripts\game\mcm\job\MultiCompanionModNPCManager.ws)

to fix Priscilla appearance find line that says NewNpcEntry('pryscilla') - it's line 1020 in base version, probably the same in others, but I didn't check
and change it into NewNpcEntry('priscilla')

to make Yen, Triss and Ciri wear their toussaint appearances find lines that begin with
  • .setAppearances('ciri'
  • .setAppearances('triss'
  • .setAppearances('yennefer_travel_outfit')
and change those appearances to yennefer_tous, triss_tous and ciri_tous or ciri_empress

You can do similar edits for appearances:
  • keira_metz_wyzima
  • fringilla_tous
  • filippa_tous
  • pryscilla_recovering
Keira and Philippa will wear vanilla dresses unless you use mods like Elegant Keira and Elegant Philippa
