That's either a package loss issue on your end, or whatever server you automatically attempt to download from from NexusMods. Eitherway, nothing I can do about that, other than suggest you try again later(Just downloaded it myself to verify that it indeed, is not corrupt).
Does this just recategorize them or does it change the way they look too? I believe this is one of the monsters in the DLCs, which is why I was advised to avoid downloading them. I need something to change the appearance to be less spider and more crab, lizard, scorpion or anything else that won't cause physical panic attacks - heart palpitations, racing heart, shaking, etc.
Yes and no. This mod fixes it using scripts(by enforcing spiders to become insectoids the moment the game registers them in context of damage\attacking), where as that mod(which incoperate the now hidden\removed spider fix) edits the actual monster file.
In either case, the result is the same. Spiders become insectoids.
No, firstly it being done with script, or through xml edit make no difference to you, the end user(unless a mod needs it to be the case and handles it outside of when you attempt to hit something), there is virtually no performance gain, or heavier script load(the scripts of hitting is already done and already happens, this only checks a single flag to ensure if it's a spider or not, it could've been done a bit more efficiently by checking the spider before checking the category itself, but again, negible difference).
The only difference would be in 1: the way it's solved, and 2: compatibility issues. I chose to do the check at a point that's extremely unlikely to ever be touched, and if it is ever touched, manual editing would be easy to fix it.
I personally only mod because I enjoy coding, xml editing is not fun, therefore something I won't be touching.
Then don't download\use the mod? Eitherway they are under insectoid in the beastiary, and it states they are susceptible to insectoid oil, neither of which is the case(as they are considered specters).

Edit: If the comment was about how spiders are not insects, but arachnids I just want to point out the obvious, Insectoids aren't necessarily insects. Sandcrabs have 4 legs, therefore not insects, Endrega Drones have 4 legs iirc, Giant Centipedes are, as the name says cetipedes, and kikimores have 4 legs.
Meaning the only thing that are insects in the insectoids category are Endrega warriors\workers and arachasae. This isn't new in Witcher 3 and was the case in the two previous Witcher games as well. To be more specific, "insectoids" in Witcher universe are "insect-like" monsters. Spiders are definitly insect-like, just as a centipede is.
In the other games you have the Koshchey(witcher 1), which is a crab-like monster, I.E: Arachnid.
Eitherway, it is weird for them to have the specter category, as they definitly do not act in any way like other specters. They have no phasing abilities, nor are they immaterial, ontop of the beastiary inconsistencies.

Also further point out Insectoid is a word to describe and I quote: "insect and arachnid like creatures", but in all technicality, insectoid in Witcher would be "monster Arthropods", which definitly doens't roll off as well as insectoids. Therefore the commonly used pop culture term is used, it rolls off better and everyone knows what it means.
The -oid ending denotes a similarity/likeness to whatever is the first part of the word. Insectoid therefore means "insect-like", not (necessarily) "insect".
Yeah it's to the point where one has to wonder, is it a bug, or a very very clever red herring? Eitherway, I'll take my chances on it being a bug, lol. Doesn't make much sense as a red herring unless there was some book or note or something that'd at least hint to why they are in the specter category, lol...
Another thing (iam not an expert in mods so forgive me) , when i download the file it opens: https://cf-files.nexusmods.com/cdn/952/3827/Main-3827-1-1563592464.rar?md5=FvuV-z4b0Y_np9xDs2bxHA&expires=1563609941&user_id=53270121&rip=189.58.93.202 , it is normal to open notepad with lot of codes ?
No idea what you are asking. The download link will download an archive file(.rar), so you'll need to extract it's contents(winrar, 7zip etc). When this is done you'll have a folder called modSpiderFix, add this to your Mods folder in the Witcher3 directory.

I suggest making a forum post with a request of a mod that changes the apperance of the spiders.

Edit: Actually decided to check, and https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1329 is the mod you'd want. Which replaces the spiders
Thank you.
