    Quick Info
    Spoiler:
    Show

Welcome! You are right here, when lore, realism and the whole gameplay improved are your goal for playing The Witcher 3.

    What is LFT?

Massive changed, enhanced and expanded content, while keeping the "canon" of the original game.

This mod is a very deep gameplay overhaul development over more than three years hardcore modding and playtesting. In result, a round, stable and bugfree mod, as far as it can be said from playing. In whole, a conceptual and unique mega modification which delivers the ultimative immersion for "true witchers". And especially Sapkowski book fans, like myself, might get the feeling "i'm finally at home".

Where to get the content info?

    Page menu:
    - Description, including FAQ.
    - Articles, for some details.

    Documentation:
    - A folder in the LFT download file, massive changelogs and elaborations (pdf files).

    How is the atmosphere?

Gallery images might be indicative (spoilering effect for new W3 players).

1st row, page-sticky art images with LFT logo (credits: Wiator, past team member).
Screenshots from my last playthrough (3rd relaunch build):
2nd row, start at White Orchard.
3rd row, in Novigrad and Velen, post Velen main plot.
And so on, reflecting certain plot progress stages.
Page 2, finished the Wild Hunt plot. What a ride again!

It reflects a huge set of applied mods and settings, which vary at times. So "atmosphere" and related things are always dependent on those aspects.
However, with LFT and my mod setup, i feel like playing the Geralt from the books and Sapkowski's witcher world connected to the CDPR witcher world, as far as it can be said in this matter. For me in regard of "atmosphere", mission accomplished. Thanks to CDPR, LFT and many other mods.

Ard Skellige, coastal village ... just a Skellige fan.

"About three years ago, when I first started playing TW3 and in the chest of a poor peasant I found a pile of gold and gems (which he didn't even have to buy uninfected water for his sick daughter), then I began to dream of how great it would be to make the game not only more difficult, but to adapt it to the atmosphere of the chaos that had been in the books.

But I had no choice but to dream … I remembered the criticism of Never Winter Nights and the heaps of gold in barrels in the slums. But it was a different time. Of course, I was happy to finish TW3, but with the feeling that the atmosphere could be better, more real, closer to books and lore.

And now I have all of that with LFT. When I was playing with version 3.5, I felt like I was playing a different game than a few years ago and with every new version the experience is better and "deeper". Finally, every little thing, every piece of equipment, every herb and every bottle (whether it's full or empty) is important. [...] LFT adds importance, coherence, logic and of course lore."

"Do you want to experience a really deep, depressing, realistic and lore story of Witcher's journey on the trail? Do you want to experience the real despair of the Velen ravaged by war, Novigrad, where money means more than life, Skellige, where any abandonment of the trail can mean rapid death, and Toussaint, who is abundant in wealth, but everything has a price and wealth does not just lie on the ground? Choose LFT!"

"I think this version is really your Meisterstück. Everything what TW3 player possessed by Lore could only crave, now gained through the LFT."

"I read the changelog and it seems to me that the LFT has dangerously approached absolute perfection, and apart from minor improvements to existing systems, there is nothing to change. I tried it right away and immediately the amazing atmosphere breathed on me. TW3 is really a unique thing, but with LFT it's a real idea of the Witcher world, as one imagines it when reading a book."

"Thank you, DV, finally the Holy Grail!"

"LFT is the best mod that i know."

"I see significant changes, and it's really positive! For starters my inventory is still as varied, but with less quantity (thanks to better
item stacking). The formulas and schematics are more accessible, and the battles better balanced. ... specters are always dangerous but not unbeatable ... the economy is more sensible, more fair."

    ... to Sapkowski

I have read the witcher books a second time (edit: in meantime a third time), and i was impressed again and sometimes surprised that it came partially so freshly over me, as i would have read some things the first time. At the end of 'Lady Of The Lake' (last book) i almost got a little depression that it ends.

While LFT is naturally based on CDPR's The Witcher 3 data, a big part of inspiration and motivation comes from reading Sapkowski's books. In this sense, the modification is dedicated to Sapkowski's work, or just Sapkowski himself.

Thank you, Andrzej Sapkowski (about him: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrzej_Sapkowski).

... and to Ciri (loving this character)

    ... to CDPR

I'm definitely also fan of the Witcher 1 and Witcher 2 games. I played them prior to Witcher 3. Anyways, i can only recommend to play The Witcher 1 and The Witcher 2, at best before Witcher 3.

Here lots of thanks to CDPR for these three very amazing games once more!

Abandon The Witcher 3 as for new games?
I don't think so ... the best game is already there ...

Ciri: "LFT? Total Immersion. And makes Geralt and me strong,

The Witcher is underways again ...

and on his path observes ...

    ... hmm. However ...

A strange conversation took place ... in a twilight zone ...
Geralt: "Not using LFT as mothership mod for this game?
Although lore and realism is a point? Not good ... ."
Vesemir: "Oh well. Todays people prefer the Netflix Witcher,
or use the game as generic fantasy title. ... things used to be better ... ."
Geralt: "... not really, Vesemir. You have forgotten it only ..."

Hello, no plans in this direction. Fired up the game at last in July 2022. In other words, I don't play/mod W3 these days.

Also my researchment about the Next-Gen update version 4.0 does not trigger me.

Recommendation or just the option, stay with the "Classic" version 1.32.

I know how it goes on Steam:

      Steam - W3 - Properties - Beta - Classic Branch.
Will be similar on GOG, i guess.

Hello, there is always a way with manual merging, but i think both these mods are pretty difficult with LFT. As for VladimirUI, no idea what's to do. In regard of Gwent Redux, check description page, the critical files are mentioned in 'Other Mods' under 'Gwent'.
My recommendation when you are not up to manual merging files (speak: complicate customization, trial and error/possible bugs), make a decision for or against.

Hello, I really enjoy the concept of this mod, with lore at the centre. Installation seems considerably more complicated compared to other mods, but I'll get there. Is there any way to play this without Primal Needs enabled, or does that destroy the balance too much? Sorry, but make-believe pooping/peeing isn't really for me. The fatigue feature also seems to be more of a chore than a joy to experience.

Hey, in the PN mod menu, you can customize everything: Single values, disable features (fe. peeing/pooping) or disable PN completely (not recommended). The LFT folder contains my settings (recommended, screenshots). And yes, the PN part is integral content of LFT; this concerns at least thirst, hunger and fatigue. I personally play PN Animations usually without the puking (else, everything enabled).

Great mod DaVincix. I've finally got it to work together with a couple of other mods in your list. I am very impressed at what you've achieved here! This is exactly what I've been looking for and how I wanted to play the Witcher for a long time. Hardcore story mode.

I have one issue that I cannot seem to figure out. I cannot seem to cast signs with a controller. Do I require a controller mod that restores some bindings? Everything seems to work with keyboard + mouse and I cannot seem to find any support for it in your documentation.

Cool thanks. For anyone that has the same problem I have: I've managed to fix my problem by deleting the input.settings file in my documents. If you launch the game without the input.settings file the game will generate a new input.settings file (vanilla) and then I added your tweaks for PN. It plays like vanilla on the controller but at least I can cast signs again.

Thanks for the hint. Yes, the LFT installation requires basically a vanilla setup (as described). However, seems you got it right already.

Generally speaking, some mod parts need very few custom additions in vanilla input.settings (not unusual with certain mods). Covered accurately in the instructions, easy to apply (copy and paste), related to Primal Needs.
Perhaps, a custom gamepad/controller setting might make sense, like with vanilla and other mods, i don't know. Can't help there, because i'm k/m player.

What about the equipment? Is it viable, for example, to use Khaer Morhen armour that you get in the beginning until the end of the game, or it just gets much worse than the other swords we get throught the game? What I mean is, if there are fixed stats for the equipment or else? Im really looking forward to try this mod, but I wanna get this clear first :), Happy new year in advance anyway

Hello, when your question has been, if gear autolevels, then no. This mod has no autogeneric stats for gear. Both such things (autolevel and autogen) are unrealism, balance and challenge breaking, and for me immersion destroying.

With LFT you have the option to upgrade your gear (armors and swords) throughout the game, aside to the quest gear receivals (unique in this mod). That way, the "Kaer Morhen" and "Hunter" armors and the "Witcher" swords can be used from the getgo to the end of the whole game (master, magic, relic, witcher, witcher grandmaster qualities), if desired. This upgrading is embedded in the plot, rather the quests, in an immersive style. Besides, there are uncountable other gear options. All gear stats are balanced for the unique LFT gameplay design.

Oh man, this is it. Excellent mod, this is exactly how Witcher 3 should be played. Now; I'm not the most skilled of gamers, I only beat the game on normal and struggled with Detlaff boss fight in Blood and Wine haha. But this mod enhances the game so, so, so much (especially with the optional mods added on as well), that I am actually enjoying a much higher difficulty level. I tried playing on Hard, but put it back down to Normal however. With this mod added on, even Normal difficulty is a completely new, much harder experience.

I'm loving what you've done with the economy, the equipment leveling system (or lack thereof), the fact alchemy is practically back to the way it was done in Witcher 1 and I'm especially loving the focus on playing as a Witcher. Speed and precision.

As a big fan of the books and the video games, I have to give this a solid 10/10. If anyone is looking for a lore-friendly, hardcore experience - this mod is it. Nothing else even comes close. Excellent work through and through.

What I would suggest however is maybe making a YouTube video (or a series of short videos covering specific topics, e.g new alchemy, new economy and leveling, etc.) for the mod. It would be extremely beneficial to explain how exactly everything functions.

P.S: I have a question; could you explain the usage of signs for me a little bit better? When I'm fighting, sometimes the yellow bar outright refuses to regenerate, which usually leaves me sign-less or able to cast one or two signs before I'm out of luck.

P.S: I have a question; could you explain the usage of signs for me a little bit better? When I'm fighting, sometimes the yellow bar outright
refuses to regenerate, which usually leaves me sign-less or able to cast
one or two signs before I'm out of luck.
For signs, you need stamina. The yellow stamina bar must be at 100 %. Else, no sign possible.

Well, stamina is a kind of challenge with my mod. Reading the descriptions in Articles, you will find that with "Inventory and then the C key", you can check the Stamina ability of your Geralt (aside to many other abilities, that's vanilla function) at every time in the game.

My best short tip here: Take care of Geralt's bio-physical conditions (hunger, thirst and especially fatigue). That is the best basic preparation for any combat. Primarily the vitality and just stamina regeneration.

And prevent over-encumberance or also alcohol effect (blur), when fighting. As mentioned, check the conditions with Inventory and C key, prior to combat.
Edit: A stamina regeneration value of below 12 is not really recommended in combat, logically, the higher the better. But all that depends on the enemy or enemies and just if you can prevent getting hits, or just Geralt's behaviour in the fight. So a stamina regen value of below 10 can be enough, if you can get rid of an enemy/enemies. The situations are different and it also depends on your plans (time, goals, daytime, weather, etc.).

And overall, try a day planning (like in real life ;)) for the adventures: Like sleep, breakfast, equipment maintaining, edibles and alchemy preparation, etc.. A supply management or planning for quests and any tasks, that have to do with combat.

When not done as of yet, use the by me recommended PN settings (screenshots in LFT folder).

Aside to all this, don't be a stupid Geralt and seeking anger at every corner. Put a focus on your tasks. That is resource saving.

      --

As for difficulty, well, as described in Articles, preventing getting hits ... sounds easier than done, right. But keeping Geralt in movement, that's half the battle. Using the 'Fleet Footed' skill is duty, and Quen 1 on tier 3 ... this just asap, and as the basement of skills in slots. And when you have hordes of Ghuls or whatever around, pull Geralt out of their radius if possible, replenish stamina and then back into the fight, etc.

I play it for years on Deathmarch. But i also once started, alone with vanilla, on Normal, then Hard and Very Hard, with mods.
However, once used to the right rythm of Dodge/Parry/Evade/Attack, then the combat is really not that hard, i would say even quite easy! That's one of the reasons why LFT's gameplay in whole and of course also the combat model provides extra challenge.

Edit: It is also not really advisable to use Roll (with proper mod: Pirouette animation), aka the Space-key, as it uses more stamina. That's rather a last ressort action, when really necessary to pull Geralt out of action (fe. when fleeing from the field is a good idea ;) ).
The defence routine behaviour should be Dodge back/left/right side, and at best jump-dodge behind or the side of an enemy and attack, while a timed front attack is also not wrong (often the usual case), especially when the enemy has no defenses.
And heavy attack needs a lot stamina, thus should be used only when in good condition, speak, proper stamina regeneration value, or when you can hope or assume that it finishes the enemy.

Thank you for the tips, I started doing just that and I'm faring much better than I initially did :). Smooth sailing so far, though there are still challenging fights (for me) even in White Orchard. Loving it thus far.

?Aside to all this, don't be a stupid Geralt and seeking anger at every corner. Put a focus on your tasks. That is resource saving.

This is actually another one of about ten thousand different reasons for why this mod is excellent. It even forces you, in some aspects, to play this lore-friendly Geralt. In the vanilla game there really isn't any real reason to avoid a fight with NPCs, except in some rare circumstances. However, when playing with LFT, I try to chose the path of least resistance at all times :) After all, why should I go out of my way and provoke people to fight me, when I can just use Axii and avoid unecessary bloodshed? (And losing health points, dulling my blades, etc. etc.)

?But keeping Geralt in movement, that's half the battle. Using the 'Fleet Footed' skill is duty, and Quen 1 on tier 3 ... this just asap, and as the basement of skills in slots. Thank you, I will try to get them immediately! Yes, I'm slowly starting to avoid the space bar and trying to time my dodges. Long way to go before I can do it with my eyes closed, but I'm improving for sure haha.

?Team member koko planned exactly that. But RL stopped the engagement. Still hope, he comes back some day! Or just from volunteers.

Oh, that is a great shame, as it would definitely help in getting people into this mod. I believe the first great 'obstacle' is the slow process of understanding new game mechanics, which could be sorted through videos. Hmm... I could even potentially do these videos myself at some point, I just need to learn more about this modification as I go. Much, much more :)

P.S: In one or two fights thus far I have come to a really unusual instance of my sword... falling out of the grasp of my hand :). Is this a glitch by any chance or would I be correct in assuming that I am wasting too much stamina? (I used to exclusively use spacebar pirouette haha).

Nothing to do with stamina and also no glitch. See Elaboration folder, "11 Sword Durability".

I hope you are aware of the sword abilities in LFT, ie. that the steel sword is the main weapon, including the durability differences between steel and silver sword. If not, read also the according elaborations "Sword" pdf's.
