About this mod

42 - Why? - Why not?

An overhaul mod that removes linearity of the game.

Mod requires both big DLC + crossbows + wolf_set

Alternatively: Mod42_Swords has only sword models (substitute cat/bear/griffin) and the assets to remove scabbards. NOT COMPATIBLE with mods changing crafted weapons stats. Unequip b4 instaling

The linearity of the game is removed by homogenizing opponent_power/items_skills all around.

That also removes the majority of Geralt's power curve, one can fight everything and everyone with the starting set and nothing else.

On top of that some anime swords were added because, why not? Demo here: https://youtu.be/FpJ0IzT4kJk

Things to watch out for:

(1) Anime swords, Longclaw, Harpy and starting silver sword - do both normal and silver damage. Rule of thumb that steel is better for humans and silver for monsters still stays though (silver swords do less normal damage then their tool-tip indicates).

(2) Progression dependence is removed from most of the witcher things (except for oils), potions and bombs of all levels have the same effect (despite some descriptions) and only one recipe level can be used.

(3) Bookshop in Novigrad sells all monster deck cards, do not buy more than 1 of each or it may break some quests! Obtaining duplicates otherwise should be fine, use them or not is up to you.

(4) Skill tiers are removed, the locks on the right side is just a visual artefact

IMPORTANT:

(a) Mod is not likely to be compatible with most of the other mods out there

(b) Would not recommend to use with existing save-file

(c) Mod is not intended to be used with NG+ and most likely ruins it

(d) Mod requires both big DLC + crossbows + wolf_set

CHANGELOG:

V101:
-Rotation glyphword no longer prevents burning application
-Runewrite is now appropriately generous with his craft for what Geralt did for him
-Heavy artillery perk is heavily buffed, damage buff from 200% to 300%, no more reduction in the number of bombs

V102:
-Anime re-balanced and intensified, now enhanced/superior are rebuild models for the basic version where superior is an axe. (models are only added for bear gear at the moment)
-Minor re-balance of scaling in favor of monsters.

V103:
-Cat school weapons additional models (same principle as for bear)

V104:
-Griffin school weapons additional models (same principle as for bear/cat)
-Cat silver sword enhanced model slightly corrected
-Major set bonuses requirement lowered to 5

Detailed description (more or less)

Gwent:

-Monster cards now allow duplicates (1 per card), full set of field-cards can be bought from book-shop in Novigrad. WARNING: buying more than 1 of each might cause quest failure!

Shops:

-Runewrite is crafting things virtually for free because of how much he owns to Geralt. SIDE-EFFECT: new runes/glypths are cheap as dirt

Models:

-Anime sword models are for Bear/Cat/Griffin steel/silver swords of basic/enhanced/superior quality

Crafting:

-Except for the oils all the other crafting dependence are removed.

-Gear of any level can be crafted without having the previous ones.

-For bombs and potions it means that once basic/enhanced/superior version was made the other will disappear from the crafting list. That has no real effect though as all levels have the same stats equivalent to superior. SIDE-EFFECT: some descriptions are not correct since they still correspond to lower levels while an actual effect is for the highest upgrade level.

Combat/Leveling:

-Every enemy (except for mb very-very few) is set to level 42

-Geralt will start level 1 but will get to 35 in no time, then progression will be extremely slow. Practically he should never go above level 42, very unlikely to reach 42 also.

-When reaching level 35 Geralt receives considerably more skill points than in the basic game. One have to use them with caution hover as they would be barely enough for a semi-full build with most mutations unlocked. Additional skill points will be mostly available through exploration, because Geralt will not level to much further.

-Weapon/crossbow/armor stats are homogenized on the level of mastercrafted witcher gear from base game

-Bear/Cat/Griffin armor pieces of basic/enhanced/superior/mastercrafted quality all have 3 sockets and can be enhanced by the runewrite

-All level-difference-based nerfs/buffs are removed

-No more level requirements for anything

-No more skill tiers

-Red mutagens are nerfed to give only half the damage bonus

-Crossbow general skill buffed to give more damage

-Bombs "heavy  artillery" skill is buffed to give more damage and no penalty on the bomb number

-"Rotation" glypthword buffed to no longer prevent burning. SIDE-EFFECT: if used with the skill increasing Igni intensity the animation is not correct.

-Anime swords, Longclaw, Harpy, starting silver sword do both types of damage (silver swords do less normal damage then silver damage)

-Death-march difficulty is boosted up

-2 easy mode difficulties are boosted up

-some of the monster level scaling is boosted up

-Underwater damage is over 9000, so Geralt oneshots anything underwater regardless of the level

-Fist-fight damage is over 9000, because otherwise fighting 42 level opponents is real long and they oneshot Geralt anyway. Now it is oneshot-fest on both sides. WARNING: not all fist fights are following this rule, some will be just a normal fist battles with no oneshots on either sides (unless death-march)

-Major set bonuses activate at 5 pieces

May be some more things.... =)
