Excalibur is a steel "Aerondight" like sword with armor reduction( random between 25 & 50), critical damage and bleeding effect bonuses. The quest commences during the Last Wish quest with Yennefer and the sword is recieved after collecting 7 Skellige Clan shields.
Four of the shields are in locations accessed during the side quests -
- Possession
- Lord of Undvik
- Morkvarg &
- The Path of Warriors
The other three are freely available and the quest shields can always be accessed even before starting the Excalibur quest. Mappins exist for all shields but only activate when the actual quest starts so watch out for shields that are highlighted by your medallion and can be looted. They will go into your quest item inventory but have armor icons as none exist for shields.
There is no lower level on Excalibur so can be gained at any time it just might be difficult fighting monsters in the areas. I completed at level 21 without difficulrty
