Description

** Updated for 1.21. **

There are people like me who like to play without subtitles on. Maybe they distract us from visuals or break immersion. However, turning subtitles off really turns them off completely in game. This means that you won't be able to see the translated lines for some in-game foreign dialogue.

This mod is a very simple tweak to show subtitles for lore-languages that you can't normally understand without turning subtitles on. This includes at least some instances of Elvish and Nilfgaard. Normally, if you have subs on, the game shows the translated line in [brackets], but if you have subtitles off, you won't see even that. This mod fixes that issue.

There are two versions of this mod. The main one shows subs for both dialogue and "oneliners"  (lines that NPC:s say are shown above them if subs are on). The alternate version enables these subs only for dialogue, use it if you feel that floating text above NPC:s breaks your immersion.

Installation

Use NMM.  Choose either version of the mods, but not both. Leave the Menu-option for subtitles to "off".

Troubleshoot

The mod modifies 3 files:
hudModuleDialog.ws
hudModuleOneliners.ws
hudModuleSubtitles.ws

If any other mod modifies these files, it might cause unforeseen consequences. Try using the script merger first, contact me only if that does not help. I'm actually not quite sure if changes to hudModuleSubtitles.ws actually DO anything, but I have edited it just in case.

The scripts use just a simple hack, nothing fancy. A subtitle-line is shown regardless of configuration options, if the line contains "["-character. I can only hope that the devs were consistent in this matter.

About trolls

No, it was not possible as a general solution when I implemented this, and most likely that is still the case. There was a mod that implemented this for one particular troll if I remember correctly, but the generalization from that solution would have been way too tedious for me to be interested.
