The books were awesome. And no matter how good the games are, they were not able to reproduce the same spirit of road story, and travels across the world with a team of your friends to save someone main character cares about.
The books aren't bad, but they are far away from being a masterpiece in the world of literature, compared to hundreds of other books (unlike games in their industry). Especially the last two - the author was simply compensating his lack of muse with unneccessary epatage and "shock" scenes that break the characters, and then just kill them instead of unveiling many important things.
Games on the other hand, took the abandoned by it's own creator world, delivered both great storytelling and visual/musical artistic content, and provided a reasonable denouement to the stuff Sapkowski has abandoned. The only limitation for such games is the hardware capabilities, that wouldn't allow you to show the entire world yet (which is mostly possible in the upcoming 2D game, though).
I 100% agree with you, the games establish a visual for this world, they should have gone with the game visual, let's be honest the books are only that successful worldwide cause of the games,
I've read all of the books and I don't recognise Yennefer or Ciri. I'm prepared to acknowledge Geralt as a possibility, but the girls? No, I don't recognise them from book descriptions.

The games were the work of pure art, establishing new standards in their industry.
Not something you could say about the book series in their niche, and I doubt you'd be able to say about this show.
(the montage is also erroneous, - since it's not based on games Geralt won't have his facial scars)
