Introduction:
While replaying The Witcher trilogy it began to grate on my nerves how everyone in TW1 uses an identical eye texture. Every human, elf, & dwarf in the game except for Geralt, Rayla, & Jacques de Aldersberg has the same muddy eyes, which appear a brownish grey, depending on the lighting.
This mod adds unique eyes of various colors for several NPCs throughout the game as follows:
- Humans now have one of 5 eye colors: Hazel, Green, Cornflower Blue, Brown, and Icy Blue.
- Elves now have one of 3 eye colors, with more vibrant hues and a different base texture from human eyes: Amber, Azure, or Emerald.
- Dwarves now have dark brown eyes.
- Dryad/Naiad/Lady of the Lake all have bright green eyes.
My choices were mainly based on:
- Consistency with in-game lore (so Blue-Eyed Lass now has blue eyes, White Rayla's eyes don't turn from blue to brown when she "reappears")
- Continuity with TW2 and TW3 (so Shani now has green eyes, Zoltan has dark brown, Dandelion has cornflower blue, etc.)
I apologize for violating any book canon, but if anything this should be more faithful to the lore.
Installation:
- As with most TW1 mods, just extract the folder titled zzz_Eye_Overhaul into the Data\Override directory of your Witcher 1 installation.
- For example my folder structure looks like: C:\GOG Games\The Witcher Enhanced Edition Director's Cut\Data\override\zzz_Eye_Overhaul
Compatibility:
- This mod edits several mdb files (models), so would be incompatible with any mods that also alter the same models. I only know of one such mod: Rise of the White Wolf. This mod will be slightly incompatible with Eye Overhaul (only Yaevinn and one other elf will conflict).
- This mod touches no scripts, and no base skins. The only texture changes are eye textures. The human eyes use AI Upscaled Textures as a base and so are compatible with that mod.
- Eye Overhaul does not touch Triss Merigold, Geralt, or any of the other Witchers. There are already great mods out there that give them unique eyes. I highly recommend you pick these up as they will complement this mod very well:
* Unique Witcher Eyes and/or School of the Wolf (I user the former for Vesemir & Berengar, the latter for the others)
* Witcher 3 Geralt Face and Leather Jacket
* Lore Triss (Pack 1)
Thanks to ltsheppard and hiuuz for the inspiration and advice.
Other highly recommended compatible texture mods:
- AI Upscale Textures
- The Witcher Overhaul Project (season to taste)
- Inferno Edition UI
- Realistic Moon
- Witcher 2 Foltest
- Witcher 3 Radovid
- Witcher 3 Zoltan
If you play TW2 you may also want to pick up Aen Seidhe Eyes, which gives elves in that game the same unique HD eyes, for continuity.
