This is a list of the original and translated names so you can search for information using the original names.

Original Name: Translated Name

  • Commentary.

TERMS

Luck: Favor
  •  Video game "luck" is the program favoring you with positive outcomes to pseudo-random events based on a threshhold value. In that way, it is much more like divine Providence than a real world, win-the-lottery kind of luck. The game is choosing to tilt the odds in your favor.
  • Renaming Luck as Favor also describes its effect more clearly as the opposite of Curse, where the game chooses to tilt the odds against you.

Greed: Fortune

spell: cheat code
  • They are cheat codes.

WEAPONS

Magic Wand: Missile
  • The unlocalized name of this weapon is MAGIC_MISSILE.

Holy Wand: Mo' Missile
  • Mo' missiles, mo' problems...for them.
  • The unlocalized name of this weapon is HOLY_MISSILE.
  • Not using "Holy" here gives it more uniqueness when used in a different weapon's rename: Holy Water.

Death Spiral: Scythe
  • The unlocalized name of this weapon is SCYTHE.

Santa Water: Holy Water
  • The unlocalized name of this weapon is HOLYWATER.
  • I'm considering re-renaming this as Saint's Water to be closer to the original name, or not renaming it at all.

Runetracer: Pinball
  • The unlocalized name of this weapon is DIAMOND.
  • "Pinball" is more descriptive of the weapon's behavior, IMO, with a stronger semantic resemblance to Castlevania's "Ricochet Rock," which was originally called "Diamond" in that series and is the inspiration for this weapon.

Fire Wand: Fireball
  • The unlocalized name of this weapon is FIREBALL.

Hellfire: Brimstone
  • Not using "Hell" here gives it more uniqueness when used in a different weapon's rename: Flames of Hell.
  • A reference to "fire and brimstone" since this is the upgrade to Fireball (as renamed).

Unholy Vespers: Midnight Prayers
  • The unlocalized name of this weapon is VESPERS.
  • "Vespers" means an evening prayer service. Unholy vespers would be evening prayers to unholy entities, which is not a fitting weapon for fighting against unholy entities. That's just common sense.
  • Because this is the upgrade for King Bible, the vanilla name choice seems like a Christophobic micro-aggression.

Pentagram: Star of David
  • The original VFX art for this weapon is not a pentagram, it is the Star of David.

Peachone: Dove
