POST CATACLYSM Version 0.01


Presenting a massive Crescent-shaped continent to build a Viking Empire to stand the test of time!

Little did we realize that Valheim was Odin's missing eye in world-form. Travel through space and time on this majestic iris-orb!

This world map has been designed to maintain the directional challenge of the core game. You will need to travel.

Biomes have been placed in a tiered-fashion to mimic classic RPG map progression. Hardest content being furthest from the start or protected by the geography.

VERSION Post Cataclysm 0.01

The world has gone through some massive upheavals which have resulted in more islands, more rivers, splits in the landmasses, higher mountains, more swamps, hand picked boss spawn locations and much much more!

This is a new map file and if you want to keep playing on the old one this will not disturb that world. There is plenty of new and plenty reason to start fresh.

Version 1.00
combines the lessons I've learned making this and a few other maps (to be released soon in a world-map mod-pack).

Previously I was relying on using the override command that was forcing my heightmap evenly and not taking advantage of the game's system of effecting the terrain based on the biomes.

Through careful use of a handy grey image I was able to blend the proper amount of my specifications with the built-in settings.

I also did another pass of the coastline making it much more interesting and diverse.

Took a suggestion from comments to add more rivers. Used the opportunity to break up the rivers and land masses to create more and easier to navigate waterways.

I redid the Biome map and increased the amount of Ashlands. I also did a pass looking at problematic biome layering that was reducing spawned structures in some areas and clumping them others.

Pretty happy with this version. It does have a different charm to version 0.05, and if you like smoother terrain, you may want to keep using that version.

Unlikely to make any more changes to this. Expect this to get re-released in a Multi-World Map-Pack.

Version 0.05 adds high-quality erosion-based terrain deformation to the remaining zones.

Far less plateauing and much more undulation.

New Islands have risen!

The mountains have gained several levels while adventuring.

The starting meadows have been kept smoothed for ease of travel in the first few coastal areas.


This was a Final Candidate. Keep using version 0.05 if the height-map being altered is a problem.

Version 0.04
reworks the swamps to be closer to sea-level They are now undulating more similarly to the vanilla game. A finer level of erosion detail was added in many parts of the map, along with many more recognizable terrain features including several flat beaches/low-lying coastal areas.

I went back to a 4k height-map as the larger size does increase the smoothness of the coastline and the blending of the biomes. At least on this map.

Version 0.03 adds a cleaner biome map with more logical biome placement and much more natural shapes.

Biome and heightmap both 2048x2048. Previously the heightmap was 4k and the biome texture was 1k.

The position of the vendors and bosses are more challenging.

The shape of the terrain is much more epic!

Version 0.02 was an attempt to increase the slope in many areas; largely without success.

A new landmass has risen in the inner ocean!

There were also small changes to biome placements and the number of trees in the plains and meadows.
