Total War: Three Kingdoms

This document is not needed for 2.1.0 and above.  This is for people still using the old stuff and still need fixes.

Save Game Editing to fix starting Characters
This is to fix generic starting characters that are not picking up the DW portraits.
I'll expand on this section later with more details but the basic gist to fix it is as followes:

  • Download EditSF from here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/packfilemanager/files/EditSF/
  • Find your save file
  • Open your save file in EditSF
  • Go to Compressed Data->Campaign Env->Campaign Model->World->Character Generator->Persistant Storage
  • Now you will need to find the character that you want to change.  I'm not sure if the numbers change throughout a playthrough but for example, Cao Ren is #25
  • Open up the character->Persistent Character->Character Art Set Info
  • Find the filed that says something like this: 3k_main_art_generic_male_06_metal and change it to this: 3k_main_art_set_historical_cao_ren_general.
    a. Format for males should be 3k_main_art_set_historical_<name>_general
    b. Format  for females should be 3k_main_art_set_historical_lady_<name>_general

Tip: Use the numpad + key to expand and the down arrow key to move down a row. This will allow you to check lines faster by just doing +, down, look at name, down, repeat. I will work on a parser later to do this automatically.  Or maybe the Assembly Kit will allow doing this easier.

Some character locations in startpos (these positions are for the vanilla startpos, if a mod adds characters, positions will change slightly):
  • 25: Cao Ren
  • 28: Cao Pi
  • 39: Cheng Pu
  • 41: Lu Su
  • 43: Haung Gai
  • 60: Jia Xu
  • 85: Pang De
  • 125: Zhang He
  • 149: Xun You
  • 178: Xun Yu
  • 183: Chen Gong
  • 184: Yu Jin
  • 185: Guo Jia
  • 192: Zhou Tai

Compatibility Issues and Fixes with kazamax2's Dynasty Warriors Officers mod
This mod is not completely compatible with kazamax2's Dynasty Warriors Officers mod.  We don't exactly use the same naming scheme so not all characters will spawn correctly or have the correct portrait/images.  Here will detail some fixes to some issues.

Elemental Differences
Some characters created in kazamax2's mod and mine do not use the same element and might have rendering issues. For example the full body image shows up fine but other images like unitcards show a captain placeholder image.  This means that the art folder is missing the elemental ancillary images.
  • First determine the element of the officer in your save game.  For reference: strategists are water, vanguards are fire, champions are wood, sentinels are metal, and commanders are earth.
  • Then determine the element of the officer in my mod.  Easiest way to do this is to just look into the <TT3K_location>/data/UI/characters/ for the offcier's art folder and you will see his/her element in the folder name.
  • You will need to find another officer's art folder where the element and gender matches the element of the officer in your game.  For example lets take Yueying.  I have her set as wood but kazamax2 has her set as metal, you will need to find another officer's art folder who is female and metal.
  • Then you will need to copy all the blank ancillary png and the large folder from each of subfolders in the stills folder to the original officer's folder.  Ex. files to copy for Yueying's stills/unitcards/ folder: https://puu.sh/DOqXz/7c4913bcff.png
  • That should be good for all officers except female wood and fire ones.  This is because generic versions of these don't exist in the base game so they are a bit special.  An additional step is needed for them.
  • Taking Yueying as an example again, we will need to match the folder structure of the composites folder to another metal female.
  • Then it should work in game.

Character spawned but has generic image.
This means that the character is from kazamax2's mod and is not tied to my art assets, to fix this you must follow the instructions above for finding the character in your save game data and change the art set to point to mine.  Then the steps in Elemental Differences will need to be followed if the elements are different.
