About this mod

Beta Reborn is an overhaul mod that recreates as much of TS2's pre-release atmosphere and gameplay as possible within the final game. This extends from restored concepts like the Flare Pistol to HUD elements like the font. Everything is adjusted to make the game feel like its demo versions!

TimeSplitters 2 received tons of coverage in its beta development phase, parts of which featured radically different weapon designs and characters. From 2001 to 2002, it gradually got worked into the recognizable game we know (and love!) today.

Beta Reborn aims to capture the general scope of TS2's development phase within the GC version of the game. The generic original names for characters make a comeback. Sandwave's texture mods bring back the original Neuropol font, HUD designs, and Flamethrower appearance. Since there is no known way to import the beta models into the GameCube format, the mod uses as many tricks as it can to make guns resemble their older counterparts, like the sideways sight for the Rocket Launcher and all-wooden body of the Vintage Rifle.

Gun stats make the mod act like a fusion of TS1 and TS2. Pistol Rounds, aka "Small Bullets," can go up to 500 and are shared among handguns & SMGs. Snipers and assault rifles share "Hi-Velocity Bullets." The Silenced Pistol can be fired rapidly, the Soviet S47 deals more damage in Arcade while holding less ammo, the Lugers get 12-round magazines, and so on. Cut attacks like the Electrotool's explosive alt-fire also get restored here. Plus, 4 cut weapons (the Assault Rifle, Flare Pistol, Gatling Gun, and AI-Only Grenade Throw) get recreated for your enjoyment!

Beta Reborn works with most Story Mode levels (except for Chicago and NeoTokyo) and all aspects of Arcade/MapMaker. Two versions are available: one that maintains TS2's one-second reload times, and another that quickens them to TS1's 0.47 second reload speed.
