If the alarm should go off, the red blinking light will still appear in the center of the smoke alarm, even though the texture's light is in the 12-o'clock position, but that probably won't be the biggest thing on your mind while your Sim's house is burning down.
The two brown alarms may look similar, but one is a flat brown color, the other has a wood texture applied so that it will blend in better with walls having wood trim.
