The object of the game is for you and your partner to be the first to attain a set amount of points (typically 500).

A standard deck of 52 cards is used. One player is selected at random to the be
dealer. The dealer will equally deal all of the cards to the four
players so that everyone has 13 cards.

In Spades, each player will place down a card onto the table in front of them. The person to
the dealers left will begin the game by placing the first appropriate
card.

When everyone has placed their card (following the clockwise manner) who ever has the highest ranking card will win what
is called the "trick". (The act of the four players placing
their cards is called a trick. So logically, a hand of Spades
involves the players making 13 tricks).

When a player has won a trick, they will collect all 4 of the played cards, group them, and
place them in front of their hand, and just back of the board. It is
recommended that one crossed their won tricks from vertical to
horizontal to save space. This also makes counting your won tricks at
the end of the hand easier.

The player that has won the last trick gets to place their card first to start the next trick. Again,
play continues clockwise from the first played card in the trick.
This will continue until all players have played all their cards,
I.E., 13 tricks have been played in total. Once that is over, the
score is calculated, cards are collected, regrouped, shuffled and
then handed to the next dealer to deal the next hand (Order of
dealers is clockwise from the last dealer). Like mentioned before,
play is continued in individual hands until a partnership attains the
set amount of points.
