Saber Releases Toolkit for Space Marine 2

  • Comment
We love it when studios embrace modding fully, so we are thrilled to let you know that Saber Interactive, developers of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, have officially released a fully-fledged modding toolkit into the wild.

Game Director shares Modding Toolkit

Speaking in the Space Marine 2 Modding Hub Discord server last Saturday, Game Director Dmitry Grigorenko said, "As of today, we're releasing the official Integration Studio for public use. This is the exact same editor we use internally for all gameplay development. No more editing files in Notepad and praying you didn't miss a bracket. Integration Studio makes editing anything… ten times faster, safer, and more intuitive."

Not only will the toolkit increase the speed and rate at which mods can be created, users will also have access to tools that they previously never had such as AI behaviour trees, UI and HUD elements, scenario editors and more.

Grigorenko continued within this Discord message, "Not long ago, I promised we would support the modding scene, and we meant it. We're excited to see what you build next, whether it's a cinematic campaign, wild new game mode, or something we never saw coming."

In fact, for any of your eager modders, Grigorenko has already suggested the first truly cursed community project: “Fishing With Daddy Calgar” (really putting the marine into Ultramarine). There’s even concept art:

What does this mean for Modding?

While the release of this new tool opens up near limitless possibilities for the future of modding Space Marine 2 and new campaigns are certainly possible, there is still no access to the animation tools necessary to create custom cutscenes so if you had big plans for a dramatic marine monologue or slow-motion drop pod entrance, you’ll need to hold tight.

At the very least, it gives fans a lot more to do between now and the release of the recently announced Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 and it’s fantastic to see a developer allowing modding support for an online game - something we see quite rarely nowadays.

How to Get Started

So, if you’ve been waiting for the right moment to make your own mark on Space Marine 2 (or simply have been waiting for the right moment to finally give Titus a moustache), now’s the time. And, if you’re looking for where (and how) to get started, there’s even a Wiki ready and waiting for you.

As of right now, the Integration Studio is only available to download via Google Drive. We’ve reached out to Saber Interactive to ask if we are able to host the toolkit here on Nexus Mods and will keep you updated with a link in a pinned comment if this goes ahead.

You can grab the Integration Studio via the link below.

We've also created a handy installation guide for you, which can be viewed below.

Don’t forget to let us know in the comments what you’ll be using the toolkit to create; we’ve added a whole load of new categories based on what’s now possible, so what are you waiting for? Titus may lead the charge, but it’s your vision that shapes the battlefield. Mod well, and make Macragge proud.

It's been almost a year and the modding scene has died down (even though it had a revival these past two weeks), hopefully whatever's in there can light up the flame again

Great news! A new mod tag 'Made with Integration Studio' would be cool :)

Is that for compatibility or just to keep track of mods using the new tool?

Just to keep track, because I don't think using the toolkit or not would impact the compatibility. So it would be something nice to have, but not essential :)

You can also use Vortex. Much easier. Just drag and drop the IS zip into Vortex to install it as a mod. It will install to the correct location and extract the default_other.pak file to "mods_source" folder for you.
