Use BepInEx Nexus Pack- there is a modpack available on Nexus. I experience an incredibly long load screen when making a new character (and the game even comes up as not responding) when I use this modpack, but you just have to wait it out usually,
Use Custom Textures - drop the .png in the Custom Textures folder. The path should be \Steam\steamapps\common\Sun Haven\BepInEx\plugins\CustomTextures
CustomTextures has a limitation where sometimes the icon will not change in the inventory. Once you place the pet it will show the custom texture.
