Apparently at some point, the game world simply gives up on the sheer amount of structures placed.
But after all, it's stable which is nice.
Still I agree, the performance isn't that good with so many structures.

    Playing on V2.0 continues.

I already have a main base (Twisty base). I've either made a whole base out of the Pengwing Observatory, where in V1.4 are only some Observatories on a long walkway.

I've rebuilt the Alterra Grand Hotel and enhanced it a lot.

I've made a tiny base in the Arctic Spires (where the Iceworm bones are).

And I've made a new Void Observatory, which doesn't float in the air, but resides 600 m deep at the very border to the void.
It's the first base that uses a nuclear reactor combined with one bio reactor.

This time the bases are NOT connected through a stupid long walkway, but are purely independent from each other.
I try to go after astetics and functionality this time.
As the bases are independent this time, each of them will also feature a control room for having a marker on it.

The more props you place, the laggier it gets.
I even have proof records of the view distance being automatically reduced if you have too many base components built.
      It's a record of V1.0 to V1.4.

From the main base there, you'll se a long walkway that goes to the Pengwing observatory to the Grand Hotel.
That walkway was seen fully in a record where not much more was built, but the more structures came, the closer the structures of that long walkway popped in.

I never changed any graphic settings, so this seems to be hard-coded in the engine, to prevent stability issues possibly?
I either won't call it "laggy" but the framerate is pretty low, while I have perfect 60 FPS on 4K when starting a new game.
Luckily it's a game which I do not play for the framerate. Merely I never play any game for the framerate. XD
But I understand that a good framerate is beneficial for shooters.
Yet Subnautica is by far no shooter. ^^

HOWEVER, in V2.0 I also deleted the save content of depleted or collected resources 2 times to generate new resources. That might also have an impact as their "ghosts" are still there if you use the scanner.
You'll find a lot resources highlighted, while there actually aren't any.

This game is similar to the first one a piece of cake even in the hardcore mode.
The only thing that keeps me playing it is that damn awesome atmosphere.

But yeah, you can use console commands, which then again would destroy achievements for you though.
