   Nice crafted things... BUT WHAT DO THEY DO ? Can mods be made that add some functionality to these items?

      It's a neat addition but purely aesthetic, for the base builder screenshot section. Working lab equipment would make for a very very cool mod. The scanner is like a handheld laboratory and renders all of it obsolete, unfortunately. This inane device alone turned me away from even trying this game for a long time, thinking it was absurd to carry around on an alien planet, rather than a phaser or spear gun. Maybe take away some of the scanners abilities - or remove it all together and have to collect samples in the field with you're knife first, and bring them back to the lab for testing and analyzing. Cut off a piece of that coral or pick up that part from a sea glide...then run it through the growing pile of lab equipment to make a breakthrough.

      That's a VERY GOOD point you make about the scanner.Making the lab equipment be used to scan samples would make the game more interesting and add a little more sophistication. I really wish mod makers could add effects and functions to the game so they could create mods that have greater impact and add more activities that the player could pursue beyond those that are already in the game. Some new functions are possible, but limited.
