NOTE: This mod was made for an older version of the game and crashes with the latest version.

"The Jedi Chronicles: Escape from the Empire" is an ambience mod that changes the game "Jedi: Fallen Order" to obtain a more cinematic experience.

I made this mod collection for me, to be able to enjoy this great game even more. I'm a very peculiar guy, or so my wife tells me, with very specific tastes. So I don't expect this mod pack to be of interest to anyone else, just as it is. But by putting it out there, I'm giving access to it for others (Use QuickBMS to unpack the mod and eliminate anything you do not like, then repack with UnrealPak). A lot more is probably possible, but this is what I have discovered up until now, during my long hours of trial-and-error-experimenting. I will be updating this mod collection as I achieve more things...

This mod would NOT have been possible without the help of the following master modders @ Discord:
- VergilFox (who has deepened my knowledge of hex-editing)
- AlexPo (who has created some very useful tools for modding JFO and is always willing to share his wisdom)
- SooperSnell (who changed several enemy models into stormtroopers especially for me)

I would also like to thank several other modders @ Discord for their willingness to help, ideas, suggestions, guides and outright support: bleedn, KillerCarth, Doyle, kboykboy et.al. Much appreciated, guys!

As always, "my apologies" for changing the branding, but for me "Star Wars" has become a bit cheesy and dated (very 70s) title that doesn't live up to the scope of the saga it has become. I'm probably the only Star Wars fan who feels that way. Anyway, the Jedi were the protectors of peace and freedom in the galaxy, but they were also its history keepers, their data library being the largest in existence. So I find "The Jedi Chronicles" a far more fitting name for this saga. If you don't like the name, simply leave out the Default_Startup_Loop.mp4 file, or make your own, or use the original one.

I guess I'm what they call an OT fan boy. That's why the new game title is more in tone with the Original Trilogy movie titles.

The thing that got me into modding some years ago was those annoying (in the long run anyway) company logos at a game's startup. With this game I also removed them, as well as the small pre-load splash. That, together with a small config tweak I found online (not the one here on Nexus), decreased the loading time on my computer by 50%. That's not bad at all.

I like my Star Wars games (don't really play any other ones) to be cinematic experiences. So when I mod a game, I always remove the HUD and any in-game markers, pointers, icons (and in this game specifically: the red targeting dots), etc. because that stuff takes me "out of the experience".

I changed the GUI a bit, mostly in the main menu area. I had this beautiful, typical Star Wars starfield in the background (see screenshot), and although it is still there, it cannot be seen anymore because it is behind fog. I needed to restore the fog (void_world_fog) because its absence caused visual problems in the Void (meditation/save game) area. A shame that...

I've replaced certain enemies (with certain weapons) that didn't feel "starwarsy" to me... Rocket launchers for example. I've said it before (in other mods) and I'll say it again here: stuff that is too Earth-bound or even worse: too dated (20th century tech) take me out of the Star Wars galaxy far far away, and dump me back in reality. I want science fantasy! I wanna escape from reality! I want Star Wars! Did you see any tech in the OT movies that reminded you of existing stuff here on Earth? I didn't. And that's what I liked so much about Star Wars. No vehicles with wheels (prequels I'm looking at you), no portable rocket launchers, no electro hammers. That's not Star Wars. And the same goes for spiders and zombies. (end of rant)

I found Prauf's hair very artificial looking and kinda superposed. By changing his skin color the hair looks more natural now.

I changed the music from the intro scene of the game (first level) because I took out the "Sony" headphones (talking about 20th century tech...) and so the original music and sfx did not make sense anymore. I still have to figure out a way to stop Cal from making that hand movement (when taking off the headphones)...

No more "reward chests", you know, those crates with electronic locks just standing around in the countryside for no apparent reason other then to give the player bonus content. I had the same problem with the "rescue pods" in SWBF1. There, the pods would land throughout the game, but no one came out. They were empty. Just a way for the devs to give the player some extras. If it's not part of the story, I find such illogical "gamey" stuff very jarring.

I took out the Battlestar Galactica-esque red light helmet visor of the inquisitor and gave her a dark visor (like the stormtroopers have).

The typical medieval dragon (Earth mythology) on Bogano is also gone.

I removed the player/camera movement restrictions (kudos to AlexPo, who showed me where to look) that occur when NPCs near you start saying stuff that the game devs want you to hear. Now, you are (almost) always in full control of your character!

Cal's Jedi master Jaro now looks less like a shiny plastic pig.

There are a few more details I changed, but these are the most important ones. And once again, this is a very, very, very personal-taste-mod. I'm only releasing it so you can take the parts you like from it and make your own mod.

This is what I still have planned but not yet achieved:
- remove non-essential tutorial flashbacks and popups that break the gameplay flow, even literally take you out of the game, or pause the game in mid-action
- make white fades black

You should start with a NEW GAME when using this mod. Since stuff has been changed or taken out, you'll probably run into trouble if you don't start out fresh.

I cannot guarantee compatibility of this mod with any other mods. You use my mod at your own risk and I cannot be held responsible for any consequences of its use. There, I had to say it. You never know. There are people around, even weirder than I am...
