Evacuating the HarbingerWillrow Hood[3] was present aboard the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Harbinger when it was hijacked by the Rebel Alliance[4] at some point between 0 and 1 ABY.[5] For fear that the overloaded reactor might explode, the admiral in command of the Harbinger ordered the passengers and crew to abandon ship before the Rebels set foot aboard it. Along with stormtroopers and technicians, Hood rushed to a hangar for evacuation, a camtono under the arm.[4]
A new jobIn 3 ABY,[6] Hood lived in Cloud City, in the atmosphere of Bespin, and worked in the gas mining operations center in the city. At his job, Hood sat a console and monitored pressure levels, vented gases, and mainly just watched lights and pressed buttons. He wasn't paid very well, the people who owned the machinery he operated were, and he was utterly and completely exhausted by the job and resented making someone else rich. He also resented that he had to wear a bright orange jumpsuit for the job. He lived in a small, dark, brutalist living quarter that suited his needs, but did not like. He dreamed of a new life where he could make himself rich rather than someone else that allowed him to see the wider galaxy outside of Cloud City. For months, Hood begged his friend Faron, a rodian smuggler, to give him a job. He liked the idea of smuggling because it allowed him to be his own boss, visit many planets, didn't require a uniform, and could allow for romantic trysts without greater meaning. Hood believed that since he was a hard worker, by smuggling he could quickly afford his own ship, but he just needed some way to enter the smuggling scene.[2]
Eventually, Faron went to his quarters with a package, an assignment, and an up-front payment of ten thousand credits that was due on the planet Batuu a week and three days later. Faron told him to bring it to a woman named Tropos who would give him forty thousand credits if he delivered it safely and on time. Faron warned that if anything happened, Tropos would make everyone Hood loved disappear and then make Hood disappear too. Hood knew that Faron wasn't one to exaggerate and was being serious, especially because of the way he said it. Hood kept the package, which was a camtono, in a chest underneath his bed in his living quarters. At one point, Hood became so curious that he'd taken the camtono out of the chest and shook it gently just to see what it sounded like. It made no noise, leading Hood to believe that whatever was inside was solid.[2]
Five days later, Hood, knowing he needed a ship with a hyperdrive and a pilot to get to Batuu, spoke with a woman named Bexley who flew a cloud car at a bar. He asked her to pilot, and she said that could borrow a ship with a hyperdrive from a pilot she knew, but not without a steep price. Hood was feeling good, as he had been drinking and was excited by the idea of being in a small cockpit with Bexley for a while, so he asked her if ten thousand credits would cover the rental and her time. He told her that he had a package to deliver, but also told her more specific details that he wouldn't have told her if he wasn't drunk and didn't think she looked good that night.[2]
Evacuation of Cloud CityArrival of the EmpireTwo days later, Hood ran many errands in the morning. He then donned his orange jumpsuit for work and headed to his job, passing through the cloud car shuttle bay because it was normally a good shortcut. However, that day it was not a very effective shortcut, as ambassadors of different factions that were considering performing business in Cloud City filled the bay. Hood was forced to bob and weave through the bay in order to keep up his pace, all while he was becoming filled with a feeling of dread. Because of this feeling, he searched for Bexley's car in the shuttle bay. He found it in its assigned spot, and found her bent over it tending to the electric elements of the ship. After seeing her, Hood decided that it was worth it to be late to his job, figuring that his co-worker Hadrian could take care of his work at the console for a few minutes.[2]
Hood spoke to her and noticed that she was not as flirty and happy as she usually was. She explained that she had gotten called back in as he had been driving around a man from Canto Bight who offered her a lot of credits to not pay any attention to it and stay away. Hood asked her if she got through to him, figuring she had and smirking at her, and she said that she did but did not flirt back as she usually would. He asked her what was going on, and she explained, with her voice low, that she had talked to another pilot who had seen Darth Vader in the big shuttle bay. This terrified Hood, and made it hard for him to speak and respond, feeling like a child who was too afraid to fall asleep in a completely dark room because of the fear that monsters could be there that he could not see.[2]
Hood eventually managed to ask if Darth Vader was there, and if he was even real, both of which Bexley confirmed and even added that he was very tall. This information shocked Hood, as Lando Calrissian, the city's administrator had been managing to stay neutral and under the radar, its sufficient unimportance the reason Hood liked it there. His hands shook as Bexley added that Vader was with someone she believed to be a Mandalorian,[2] who was a man named Boba Fett who wore Mandalorian armor,[1] and many stormtroopers, which she postulated explained the crowd of people behind them. Hood's mind now consumed with Vader, he told Bexley to hold on and ran into the crowd of ambassadors, barely hearing her response. As soon as he made it most of the the crowd, he started running.[2]
Missing cargoHood ran to his quarters, briefly considered checking in with Hadrian and making an excuse but ultimately deciding not to, as he realized he was not coming back. He made good time because the living quarter corridors were empty, to his relief. After nearly pushing over a service droid with a trash cart, he slammed into his door and opened it with its sensor pad. Upon seeing the quarters, he realized he would not miss them. He considered taking off his orange work jumpsuit, but decided that he didn't have the time and immediately pulled the chest under his bed out. However, when he opened it, he discovered it was empty. He sat down as his head spun and attempted to mentally retrace his steps to figure out what might have happened.[2]
Hood hadn't previously worried about the job until then, having already planned to leave the next day and enjoy his time on Batuu, hopefully catching some sun and having Nectrose Freeze, a type of Ice cream and glowing drinks. However, he felt as though the Empire's arrival dashed his dreams. While trying to remember who might know about the contents of the chest, hood remembered that he had told Bexley at the bar two nights earlier. He tried to think when she could've taken it, considering it was when he had been out running errands that morning. However, he couldn't remember the last time he checked the chest and couldn't figure out how she even got it. Hood stood and returned to the hallway, starting to head back to the shuttle bay.[2]
Chase and confrontationAfter turning the corner of the hallway, Hood found Bexley talking to the droid that Hood had almost pushed over earlier when he had ran to his quarters. He saw the droid indicate towards the trash unit they had been pushing, which opened and revealed the camtono. Bexley took it out, which confirmed to him that he had indeed told her enough information to want to take it. He thought it was clever she had utilized a service droid since they had access to all the rooms to retrieve trash. He realized that the reason she had seemed nervous when talking to him earlier and worried by the arrival of Vader was because her plan to betray him wasn't going as intended. He once again wondered what was inside, and then walked into the hallway, glad the cargo inside the camtono was solid because he knew Bexley wouldn't give it back easily. She ran when she saw him and he took off after her, but was not nearly as fast as her nor as able to withstand the exertion.[2]
Hood followed Bexley followed her through a mess hall toward the center of the city, but eventually thought he lost her. However, he immediately found her with stormtroopers pointing blaster rifles at her, her free arm raised. Without much thinking, Hood immediately yelled that she was a member of the Rebel Alliance. He ran and grabbed the camtono from out of her hands and told the stormtroopers that it was his property that she had stolen and he was taking back. She expresses that she can't believe he is doing this, but he says he's doing it because she stole from him. She tries to explain that the people she flies around don't tip, but a stormtrooper shushes her. The stormtrooper asks what's in the camtono, and Hood is struck by how difficult the smuggling mission is. He says he doesn't have the code, confusing the stormtroopers. Before Hood could think of anything else to do, Darth Vader arrived at one end of the hallway flanked by several stormtroopers. Hood started to ask Bexley if it was him, and she said she thought it was.[2]
Now that the stormtroopers were distracted, Hood's desperation and adrenaline motivated him to hit one of the stormtroopers blasters with the camtono and send the weapon flying, then kicked the other stormtrooper in the chest. Bexley took that stormtroopers rifle and turned it on him. She asks him if the deal is still good and he asks her if she is kidding. She says she knows he needs to leave and doesn't have a pilot, which confirms to him that she is not kidding. She smiled, which reminded him of his attraction to her. He agreed, despite knowing that it was stupid, as he was remind of being alone in a cramped cockpit and wanted to have fun. She said she needed to get her pack so the two agreed to meet at the south shuttle bay, the two running off in opposite directions before the stormtrooper could grab his rifle.[2]
EscapeUnbeknownst to Hood,[2] the Galactic Empire took up occupation of it.[1] As Hood ran for the shuttle bay,[2] Baron Administrator Lando Calrissian informed the platform's citizens of the takeover, causing many to attempt to flee. Hood ran through the city's corridors, holding the camtono, and passed by Calrissian and his Rebel allies Princess Leia OrganaChewbaccaC-3PO, and R2-D2 as they made their own escape.[1] He recognized Calrissian and thought that Organa looked familiar but couldn't place her. The sight of Chewbacca, who was a Wookiee, as well as the droids and the others perplexed Hood, causing him to realize he had no idea what was going on.[2]
However, Hood ran into Faron, who said he has been looking for him, and offered him more money for the camtono. Hood realized that the camtono must have contained something very valuable and tried to resist Faron's attempts to take it. Hood refused to give it up and the two engaged in a struggle. In the struggle, the camtono fell to the ground, making a loud noise. Hood picked it up and noticed that something inside was rattling. Faron became afriad and decided to leave, and Hood decided to find a way off Cloud City with the camtono. He met up with Bexley in the south shuttle bay, who was standing next to a security vessel she hoped to escape with him in, and after Hood confirmed that something inside the camtono was rattling he decided to leave for any destination other than Batuu. Hood was still uncertain about the contents of the camtono, but he hoped that they were salvageable and worth enough to start a new life far away from Tropos.[2]
The Anoat ParadiseDuring the Imperial blockade of the Anoat sector[7] in 4 ABY,[6] however, Hood was still on Cloud City. Months into the blockade, he was occasionally seen at the Paradise Atrium, an upper-class lounge owned by Voras the Hutt, leader of the criminal Ivax Syndicate, still cradling a camtono in his arms.[7]
LegacyA long time after the events of Hood's life, a whill interrupted another whill that was charged with recording the events of the galaxy in the Journal of the Whills, specifically a story that began with the Battle of Hoth and included the evacuation of Cloud City. That whill criticized the other's portrayal of the story and presented Willrow Hood just running through the background without saying anything as something ridiculous akin to the way the other whill was was portraying the story. However, the whill recording the events revealed that was what was going to happen in their version, leaving the other whill aghast at the lack of inclusion of Hood's inspiring bravery.[8]
Personality and traitsA human male, Willrow Hood had black hair and dark skin.[1] Willrow was a cautious and practical individual who was motivated by money because he dreamed of escaping his menial job and enjoying a life of luxury. This motivated him considerably, as he considered letting go of the camtono when the struggle with Faron became too intense, but ultimately decided to keep fighting because of the large sum of money involved. Willrow was also shown to be resourceful, adaptable, and quick on his feet when he decided to leave Cloud City first to deliver the camtono and then to run away and start a new life somewhere else. Despite not seeming to be particularly brave or heroic, as he was mainly concerned with his own survival and financial gain, was constantly nervous, and attempted to run from his problems,[2] one Whill believed that Willrow had inspiring bravery.[8]
